Guest guest
Good solution to the sore issue-that is one of our favorite techniques for healing the skin. With regards to stiffness, My doctor has us do stretches/massage when david has his free time. I feel this helped loosen his feet and stretch his muscles. His feet were stiff but once he got to be more active on them-they loosened up (he now is too loose-ha ha). Just a thought that some massage may be the way to go! kathleen > > > > My son got his casts off today and is in the shoes. Guest guest
I am glad to hear that the lanolin was ok, it certainly has made things look so much better. We have stretching exercises to do with his feet. When we got the casts off on Friday, the physical therapist wasn't there to go over the stretching in detail with us but we go back this Friday to see her. Druing 's " free time " out of the shoes, I have on occasion put him in the jumper that hangs from the doorway. He is hesitant to use his club foot but hops away on his other. > > > > > > My son got his casts off today and is in the shoes. Guest guest
- More than likely his little foot is still sensitive seeing that it had been in a cast for so long. I remember when I broke my arm-how tingling it felt and how sensitive it was for a while-it was also kind of weird to use since it had been immobilized for so long(8 weeks). I would bring your concerns up to your PT on friday as she (or he) will be able to help you with additional exercises or massage technique. Glad to hear the sore has healed up! kathleen mom to david bcf fab 12/7 8/28/04 > > > > > > > > My son got his casts off today and is in the shoes. Guest guest
, I'm glad the lanolin worked for you, that stuff works for almost anything I think!! I guess my question about the stiffness would be do you mean just the way he moves his foot in general or is it stiff if you try to dorsiflex the foot or move his foot in circles? I think he may move his foot oddly for just the reason you mentioned. After having it in the cast his foot undoubtedly feels funny, some kids are touch sensitive, others may just move kind of akwardly for a while. If his foot seems stiff as far as you being able to dorsiflex it, etc. you may wish to do some stretching exercises? I would check with your Ortho, just to be sure but there are some posted in the files section that Dr. Dobbs recommends. Very simple to do and only takes a few moments a day. One trick I have found when dorsiflexing my son's foot - he tends to try to hold his foot very stiff so I can't flex it, if I sort of cup my hand under his foot, so my palm is flat to the bottom, fingers pointing back towards his heel, my index finger kind of wraps up over the heel and presses lightly on the achilles as I flex it, it gives him less leverage to do his stiff as a board trick. Hope this helps! > > > > My son got his casts off today and is in the shoes.
