Guest guest
Good for you!!!! Never apologize for rambling. What you have to say is just as important as anyone else. I have not been through the surgery yet, but from everything I have heard the depression is normal. But you seem to be getting better with your depression and other conditions. Who knows, some day you might be off all your meds and functioning just fine. It is amazing what loosing some weight can do for you. Be proud of yourself. Getting into those smaller clothes is a great accomplishment. Keep us posted on your progess with the nausea. I have a friend with a hiatal (sp) hernia and she has much of the same symptoms that you have. I know it is hard to deal with, but keep eating and hang in there. The remainder of your weight will come off. Dora
Guest guest
Cindy, Yes I do still take protein shakes but not as often as I should and definitly not as often as my doctors and the nutritionist wants me to. I hate the way they taste...YUCK!!! I haven't been doing much exercising either because since my gastric bypass I have had three other surgeries and a SEVERE car accident that I have been recuperating from. I've pretty much spent the past 7 months either on the couch or in a hospital bed. It seems like as soon as I get better from one thing another sneaks up on me. First they thought I had some kind of bone marrow cancer, so I had to have a bone marrow biopsy for that, that wasn't pleasant. Then they thought I had lymphoma, I went through a bronchoscope and a surgical lung biopsy for that, turnes out it's not cancer but some other disease, Sarcoidosis. Then my blood levels go down to critical and they want to admitt me for blood transfusions which I refused so they made me go to the hospital twice a week for IV Iron infusion. My blood levels are still low but they have come up a little. Then I got in a severe car accident. I hit a tree, flipped the van, hit another tree, went airborne, and landed on it's side in a river. I didn't have on a seatbelt so I was thrown to the back of the van. It took them an hour to get me out with the jaws of life, they flew me to a trauma center. They didn't think I'de ever walk again. I was so scared. But within 24 hours I could feel my legs and move them again. The damage...severe concussion, lacerations to my head, several broken bones in my right shoulder, broken left occipital bone at the base of the skull, bruised breast bone, 7 inch laceration to right leg with 17 stitches, and lots and lots of bruises. So you can imagine why I haven't been exercising much lately. I'm starting to feel better though so I'm gonna start soon. That's great that you walk a couple miles a day though. I really have to start doing that. I really don't have any excuse not to at least walk, I can at least do that much, right? Guest guest
-Margaret, They did think that I had a stricture, that's when they found the hernia. I don't throw up much anymore. Just water once in a while if I swallow it too fast or too much of it at once. I have to take little baby sips which isn't easy if your dying of thirst, which I am most of the time. Do you have that proble? That's the only thing that bothers me about this surgery. I was always a big drinker before...no not alcohol... mostly soda actually, but now I can hardly ever quench my thirst, no matter what I drink. It's so annoying. Yes I do go to a support group in my area, well actually I haven't been to it in about two or three months because I have been recuperating from alot of surgeries and medical crap. And yes I do have a follow up program with my gastric bypass surgeon, as a matter of fact I see him tomorrow. He's gonna be glad to see me. I have lost 37 pounds since I last saw him two months ago. I can't wait to show him my progress. Take care. Isn't it great to go in your closet and have so many new choices.LOL When I first had my RNY Lap in June 24, 2003 and started to loose weight I was so happy my old clothes didn't fit anymore and I didn't have any smaller clothes so I became a frequent shopper at Susie;s deals everything is $5.00. When they seen me come in they justed smiled.LOL Now i can shop off the rack at any store. I still sometimes go to the plus size first. Then realise everything is to BIG!!!!! I'm sorry you are sufferingfrom nausea, that is a terrible feeling. Have they checked to see if you might have a stricture? My doctor says if you can't drink water without it coming up you might have a narrowing. I'm no doctor but just a suggestion. Do you have a support group that you attend? Do you have a follow up program with your doctor? Have a good day. God bless you. Would love to communiate with you. I live in Las Vegas. Guest guest
Nean, You must be one tough cookie. Wow, to go through all of that within 7 months. I think you are doing great just talking about getting out and walking. Hang in there, the bones will eventually heal. You keep up the good work. God needed you here on earth for a little longer it seems. God Bless, Dora
Guest guest
Dora, Thank you for the encouragement. Even though I have had a rough time since surgery I wouldn't change a thing...well I would like to get rid of the nausea... but seriously though, if I had to do it all over again I wouldn't hesitate a second. The actual surgery itself was a piece of cake. For me there was hardly any pain at all. I can say just a little discomfort when they stopped the morphine drip on the third day. But no real pain. Not at all. I was so surprised at that. I had it done laporscopically done. And the thing with this weird nausea...well I figure it will eventually go away, it's gotten much better than it was in the beginning, so I'm sure it will eventually go away. Even if it doesn't, it's worth it to get the weight off. The annoyance of being alittle sick during the day is by far outweighed by the joy of being thin for the first time in my life and being healthy. I can deal with it. Thanks again for your kind words and good luck in your journey. Nean RNY 11/03/03 376/245/135 Dr. Kaul--NY > Good for you!!!! Never apologize for rambling.
