Guest guest
As amazing as it may sound, my spint just came off at 14 weeks. 3 months and 1/2. The entire time pre-op the time span was supposed to be 6-8 weeks, my surgeon has yet to tell me why it has taken so long, He has mentioned that he wants to make sure that my bite doesn't relapse.I guess surgeon knows best JO In a message dated 4/16/2005 9:38:59 P.M. Initially, I thought it was relative to the amount of " work " I had done. But considering some of you are having it removed after a whole 8 weeks, I'm confused. Out of the 1000+ upper and lower jaw surgeries my OS has performed, my upper jaw apparently went through the 2nd largest widening of them all. I believe my lower jaw is in a similar boat. Yet I'm having my splint removed only 4 weeks post-op, even with a history of relapse with braces. Apparently the norm is 2 weeks! How long have you guys kept your splint, and has your OS ever told you why he/she wanted to keep it in longer? I'm so worried about relapse! Guest guest
I can open pretty good, my surgeon is please with how I have opened, he measured me but I forget to ask how wide. I can chew, tacos, poptarts and stuff like that with no pain at all. My back teeth don't touch so sometimes chewing is a hassle. JO In a message dated 4/17/2005 12:08:33 A.M. Does the splint inhibit the opening?? I am very concerned about the pain I feel on my right side when talking and opening. I struggle to get food in and feel as if I am cramming it in. How wide are the rest of you opening and how long did it take?? Postop? Jane
Guest guest
When I went to get unwired at 6 weeks, my OS gave no explanation but said I think your splint needs tostay longer. Two weeks later I had it out. I am having a lot of jaw pain still and can barely open an inch despite the fact I talk all day and do the exercises for stretching my mouth. My dr seemed surprised I could only openan inch but didn't elaborate.
