Guest guest
I am a proximal RNY- does anyone know how many calories I should be getting per day to maintain and/or lose weight? In case it matters, I am 5'9 " & do 1/2 hour on the treadmill daily. I have been keeping a food journal since June 1st and was initially surprised at how many calories I was consuming daily. At first, I did not do anything but record what I was eating and made no attempt to cut back or anything. I was just trying to see what I was taking in. It alarmed me because I was coming in most days @ 2000 and sometimes greater. I think I just thought I was eating very little because it was so much less than what I ate prior to surgery. The food journal has really helped me become aware of the total calories, protein grams, carbs etc. and I have now lost 10 lbs in 21 days which makes me ecstatic because I have been stuck for several months. The dietician recommended the journal and I suggest people try it if they are stuck because it is eye opening when you write everything down you are eating. It also helps me keep up with my vitamins too. My question is what do you all think the # of daily calories should be? I read around some of the WLS websites and other groups and people are always bragging about staying @ 600 to 800 a day. This is a year or more after surgery which is really low it seems?? If I ate that little I think it would really make me tired but feel guilty now that I am eating too much. Lately, there have been many days where I go through the majority of the day till @ 5 PM with only yogurt for breakfast and a protein drink for lunch and I feel empty, like I need to put fuel in the furnace (so to speak). I never get hunger pains, but just feel that my body is telling me it needs protein. ? Also, I am drinking plenty of water daily- from 64 to 80 oz so I don't think I get tired from being dehydrated. What do you all think about the calorie count should be?? R in Nashville

Where do you go to get metobolic testing done? I've always wanted to have this done but haven't checked into it. Thanks, Beth
