Guest guest
Do not let that doctor fool you. The pancreas is a soft tissue organ and suseptible to being attack by Sarcoidosis. I was not Diabetic until the last couple of months. Get a free blood glucose meter and check twice a day, first fasting when you get up in the morning and then before you eat your evening meal. You can down load the chart program from the Bayer web site and order the cable and adapter to plug the meter into the computer and then bring up the reults and you can print them off and show the doctor what is going on. Hey it was worth it. I am now on one pill a day and it seems to be holding me. http://http://www.bayerdiabetes.com/us/bayerglucosemeters/contourmeter Sharon L. Schuckman sharupac@... Guest guest
Sharon, nice link, thank you for sharing. As for the pancreas and sarc-- all of our organs are susceptible, soft tissue or not. The A1C when over 69 is indicitive of diabetes, but some docs (mine included) choose to wait until you hit 80 before they prescribe medication-- they'd rather see us get it under control with diet and exercise. One word of advice for all of us-- check to see what glucose meters are covered under your prescription health plan. That way you won't be paying huge copays for "Non-formulary" test strips and such. For example, if I get one of the newest meters that use the disk type measuring-- my copay for 90 days of supplies for that disk would be $110. But if I get one that is approved under my plan, I pay $22 for the test strips. A huge difference, when the bucks are running short these days. Guest guest
Another word on diabetes--- the type of diabetes that we are speaking of is Diabetes Insipidous. Several of our members have this complication-- where theyy cannot get enough fluids down-- and literally can drink gallons of water daily. This is seriously dangerous as you can drop your electrolytes so low, that you literally drown. Going to the bathroom 15-20 times daily is a sign something is seriously wrong, and your docs are correct in checking to see if this is DI. They will have you do a 24hr urine collection test, and I'm not sure if they have you do a "challenge" test where they make you go without fluids for a day-- maybe someone else can share this info with you..
