Guest guest
Well, after much back and forth and some advice from friends and people on the site, I decided not to go to my college reunion because I am all rubber banded up and didn't want all my friends whom I haven't seen in 6 years to see me as a science project. The reunion was last night. I had already declined the evite and was wearing dirty jeans to work. Yesterday, at about 2pm, I looked in the mirror and realized that while my teeth and mouth might be all messed up- after 4 weeks on a liquid diet, my body has never looked better! I went out and bought the shortest little mini skirt I could find (in the kids section) and I went to that darn reunion! It was really hard, walking in there myself and knowing I looked weird smiling with my mouth closed but I was soooo glad that I went. Yes, some people were like " tova, what the heck is that? " and " great timing, tova " but I had such a great time! Granted, I found myself covering my mouth when I laughed, but I was laffing A lot! Also, I had stocked my handbag with rembrant liquid breath mints, binaca spray and a little bottle of scope which I used a bunch of times... once in front of a friend and spit back into my wine glass....(I know it's gross but I did it anyway. that's how little it seemed to matter in the end....:-) I also was very honest, telling people " I know my mouth looks weird but look how hot my body is... I bought this tiny skirt just to show off my legs! " I also pointed out, ironically, that the one other woman at the event that was wearing braces was also wearing a rather short skirt. Ha ha. And my point-- back to dating and braces---- The main reason I was hesitant to go to the reunion? I was in a very specialized major. There were 18 people in my very close class for 2 years and 13 of them were men. There were 2 in particular that I did not want to see me looking " ugly " . Forget about the braces... I had nasty rubber bands stretched across my entire mouth in every which way possible, holding my teeth tightly together. It was pretty clear that they did not think this made me look " ugly. " They both hit on me ;-) and one even commented that it was a good thing I was all wired up because it was like a chastity belt for my mouth. I know that might sound nasty out of context but it was actually rather flattering. No-one said to me " Why would you do that? " or even asked many questions at all. It seemed, just like with the braces only much grosser- that in the end- no-one really cares as much as the person wearing them. Obviously, it's different because these people knew me before and are responding to me as a whole person, not just a mouth of hardware... but still. As a PS- That Gwen Stephani had braces was very inspirational to me in the decision making process.... and she was dating Hottie Gavin Rosdale at the time... > > Sure I would date someone with braces, but i highly doubt that it > would happen... and, yes, it would depend on the person... if either > Jolie or Faith Hill were in braces, I'd date them! > > Funnily, I've found that women really don't care if the guy has > braces...in fact, as Tova suggested, it shows them the guy cares > about his appearance... > > Regardless, i couldn't care less if some girl didn't want to date me > because I had braces... Guest guest
Good for you, Tova! That's clear thinking for you... And I'll bet you looked " hot " yourself. Congratulations, Cammie > Well, after much back and forth and some advice from friends and people > on the site, I decided not to go to my college reunion because I am all > rubber banded up and didn't want all my friends whom I haven't seen in > 6 years to see me as a science project. Guest guest
Good for you Tova! My 20 year high school reunion is this year and I may still be in braces. I'm sure my orthodontist gets requests to rush ortho treatment so his patients can go to high school grad, but a 20 year reunion??? Times sure have changed! > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > I have a personal question to ask related to this entire > > > > > > process. > > > > > > > I > > > > > > > > will be getting my braces on in a month or so and then > > > > > eventually > > > > > > > > having upper and lower surgery to correct an underbite. > > I > > > > was > > > > > > > hoping > > > > > > > > to already have the braces on, but had to delay it a > > little > > > > > bit > > > > > > > due > > > > > > > > to needing dental work first. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Here's where my question comes in...I just recently > > started > > > > > > dating > > > > > > > > someone I was set up with.
