Guest guest
HI, I also had my DS with Dr. Macura. I woke up in the recovery room and after a while, I was taken to my room. I don't know why this man brought up Dr. Macura with you since his wife was operated on by a different doctor. It's something that we don't want to think about, but all surgeons have had their share of deaths. Dr. Macura has been doing WLS for over 10 years, when I saw him the first time last Nov. I asked about his mortality rate and was told it was less than 0.5% in the last few years. This is a very good rate. I know he is an exceptionally thorough surgeon and caring. Please don't let this man scare you. It is understandable that he was upset and will lash out at anyone who he perceives as a factor in his wife's condition. Guest guest
I went to the ICU first I was there for maybe 4 hours(I was high off of drugs so I really dont know how long) then I was sent to my room. I thought the ICU was SOP. I was scared of the ICU experience because I thought I would have a breathing tube and other stuff in me. I woke up in the ICU with my IV and cath nothing else. The head nurse in the ICU was a battle ax. I kept wanting to say " Sir yes Sir " . I dont think I ever asked about his mortality rate. So I cant give you any information on that. Why dont you email Gertrude and ask her she is very good about getting back to people promptly! When they were done the daughter started talking to us and she said that her and her father were donating blood for their mother who was in the hospital. I casually asked if their mother was having surgery and that's when the father went on a tirade. Now keep in mind, he has no idea that I am getting WLS surgery. He said his wife had a Lap RNY in Brooklyn on June 26th by Dr. Ferzli and wound up in ER a few days after her release and has been there ever since. She is on a ventilator, being kept sedated and needs transfusions. I don't know all of the details. He was ranting how horrible gastric bypass is and then he went on to say that the surgeon on Staten Island (Macura but kept calling him Macurio) " killed " four people! He went on to say that he has seen so many WLS patients in intensive care. Now I think we all go to intensive care after surgery for a day but am not sure. Anyway, this really shook me up today. I actually started having doubts and wondering if I am taking to big of a risk. I doubt his info was accurate but it still shook me up. Anyway, thanks for letting me vent. Lisbeth - Do you recall if you went straight to the bariatric ward after surgery or were you in ICU first?

Something is going on with my sinuses but it's seems to be mild. Sometimes I think that if I weren't getting surgery, I wouldn't be sick at all.
