Guest guest
Hello again, Thanks to everyone who responded to my post about surgical hooks. Now that I'm thinking a lot about being post-op, can anyone tell me if you can get permanent retainers on your upper teeth? My ortho says I'm going to need retainers for a long time (5 years +) on both jaws, so I want permanent ones I don't have to worry about ideally, but I've only ever seem them used on the lower jaw. Guest guest
I have a friend who has them both upstairs and downstairs. The only problem with them is, I think, that they make flossing a continued nuisance. I have the little acryllic ones. Guest guest
I have them behind my 2 front upper teeth. It's a small metallic flat thing that's glued behind my front teeth, near my gumline. My regular retainer (the one with the plastic mold in your pallate) fits over this little pin in the back. I guess my ortho thought I needed both, my teeth move very quickly. Also, pre-op my front 2 teeth were sticking out, so perhaps he wanted to avoid that they would go back to the front. I've only been in retainers for 1,5 month, so I hope my teeth will settle down after a year or so... It is a hassle with flossing: it's so close to my teeth that I haven't been able to fit a thread between it yet, and to reach there is very hard. I would need a harder thread to be able to get through , but that is too thick. So I just try to really brush it and use my waterpik a lot in that area, and get my teeth cleaned every 3/4 months.
