You didn't cause a problem! You'll see the list always talking about

legal and non-legal foods/drinks. I'm looking for cod recipes too so

I'm glad you posted it.

On the tomato sauce, I'm sure they'll say to reduce down tomato juice.

Some people may say certain 'from Italy' brands are legal because

they are so strict in labeling.

Marilyn or other moderators can say for sure ;-)

gingerale is a substitute for white wine.

Real recipe calls for 1/3 cup

white wine so that can be

used . Have great authentic northern

italian meat sauce passed down

through generations but need to know if

tomato paste

is legal .

No problem -- just a matter for discussion. <g> Dry white wine is

definitely worthwhile!

Commercial tomato paste is not legal. However, you can make your own from

either tomato juice or fresh tomatos.

I thought northern Italy ran to cream sauces, not tomato.

Another thing I like to do in a pinch for tomato paste is soak sun dried tomatoes (not packed in oil type) in warm water and then puree.AmeliaTo: BTVC-SCD Sent: Tue, February 2, 2010 2:45:56 AMSubject: Re: Re:Converted recipe

Marilyn,You will see more cream sauces in Northern Italy than Southern Italy, but tomato based sauces are there too! My grandmother was from Northern Italy, northwest and close to France to be more precise, and she made a lovely tomato based meat sauce!AmeliaHusband UC 9 years, SCD 19 monthsLDN 3 mgTo:

LOL! Guess my favorite (pre-SCD) Italian restaurant was over-simplifying

the differences between the cuisines!
