Guest guest
Hi Debbie, I've been taking Topamax for about 3 months now for migraines/tension headaches. I started with 25 mgs daily and am now on 50 in combination with my wellbutrin. I get the very edge or buzzing of a headache maybe once a week but not daily and not laying me out like they were. I find it a miracle pill for me. Helps me sleep and I've also lost weight since I've been on it. I do know that it's primary use is as an anti-seizure drug. The PA where I works told me that I'm the only other person besides his wife that he knows who takes topamax for migraines. lol, he asked me why my doctor prescribed it for me....I told him cause I did my research with my online groups and convinced him that it was worth a shot!! And again, for me...it works! Hope it does for you ) Sue Open RNY 10/26/98 From 500 lbs to 158 Dr Barry L Fisher Pease visit my site: http://www.lvcm.com/njtomato/ I believe that friends are quiet angels who lift us to our feet when our wings have trouble remembering how to fly. Topamax Is anyone out there taking this for miagraines? Would like to know how anyone else is doing on it, dosage taken, how long been taking it, did it help headaches, and was there additional weight loss or any other side affects? Doc and I are trying to figure out if because of rny if it will be absorbed any differently. I had rny almost three years ago and been stable on weight for over a year. thanks all! Guest guest
Debbie, I take Imitrex at the beginning of each of my migraines. My ocular neurologist talked about putting me on Depakote as well, but for now, I'm trying acupuncture instead. First session, 117 needles, most subsequent sessions (twice a week), have been about 50 needles. It seems to be helping. Guest guest
The operative word is that it CAN cause seizures if abruptly stopped. I never said that it would. It is not a good idea for a doctor to tell you to just stop taking the drug cold turkey especially if you are taking 100-150mg twice a day. I have to say that putting someone in the hospital for RNY surgery is not a typical occurrence and being that you were in the hospital in case there was a problem makes all the difference. That happened with me when they abruptly took me off the 160mg twice daily Inderal that I was taking for migraine prevention. I was just sharing MY experience. YMMV! Chris Topamax I have tried Topamax for migraines just recently (well about 4 months ago). My doctor started me out on a relatively low dose and increased it to either 100 or 150 mg twice a day. I didn't get much benefit from it for my headaches and, unlike its reputation, it did nothing for appetite control either. Hope this helps. Rinn p.s. by the way, when you go off this drug you must have doctor supervision. It can cause seizures if abruptly stopped.
