Guest guest
if it helps I HATED squash pre-scd - actually only started liking it when I used butternut squash to make an scd pumpkin pie -tasted exactly like pumpkin - i can't do honey anymore but it was so good!! and then work other ones in -just started acorn -but used to have to hide the flavor with cinn etc - maybe he'll come around?? how do you make the crepes? eileen 2 years scd > > > I wish I could get my husband to eat squash! I cook it for myself but then fix him potatoes. He won't do any kind of squash or zuchini so my " lasagna " uses crepes as the noodle layer. Works quite well in place of the traditional zuchini layers you see in many SCD " lasagna " recipes. > > > > To: btvc-scd > From: scdguy26@... > Date: Thu, 28 Jan 2010 12:21:49 -0500 > Subject: RE: Frustrated Newbie > > > > > > Like the other replies, you have to be either all in or your all out. SCD can't be done 75% legal it has to be 100%. Obviously people make mistakes especially in the beginning eating foods they thought were legal only to find out they are not, but it's a learning process. Like PJ mentioned if you have family that needs carbs, you can make a main dish for everyone with veggies, ect. and then a side of rice or potatoes for them. To me it's the same as if you go out to eat and everyone orders something different to drink. Not a huge deal. It is, however, a huge adjustment for yourself! I would hope the rest of your family would be supportive of your decisions and try to help in some way especially in the beginning. Moral support is huge when you first start. > > You can still make amazing meals and I cook for my whole family alot. They don't even know they are eating SCD legal foods. In fact alot of them wonder how I found out about butternut squash and how they've been missing such an awesome food for so long > > - > UC - 1+ years > SCD - 7 months 100% strict and 4 months restricted diet. > Asacol - 5 pills a day > > > > > > > > > To: BTVC-SCD > From: needleknots@... > Date: Thu, 28 Jan 2010 15:37:43 +0000 > Subject: Frustrated Newbie > > > > > Hi, > > Was diagnosed symptomatically in 7/09 and pathologically in 12/09 with Crohn's. Guest guest
Pre-SCD, I was not a squash fan. Now, it's probably my favorite veggie :-). I love all forms: butternut, acorn, buttercup. I add a little butter and salt, super yummy! The squash pie filling is also excellent.
