Irene,

Hey! I am just wondering how is eating for you with just bands? It

amazes me all the different treatments after surgery wires, banded

shut, just a couple of bands??? I wonder how it all affects how you

feel when that splint comes out? What kind of diet are you on right

now and since surgery. I won't have my splint out til the end ot

March maybe even beginning of April. Once again I wonder... it seems

everyone has different time frames. My doctor says he doesn't always

wire shut. I guess I was wired because they expanded my upper palate

too, who knows. I know you probably missed your child. I am going

crazy not being able to talk to my daughter. She is in the learning

to talk stage where she copies every word...and I can't talk clearly!

I think my new chin is going to get some used to but when I smile I

really am starting to like it better. My profile looks a lot better

I think. I will be posting some pictures soon but haven't yet.

You're right about one thing...this is the smile I'll have for good

because I don't want to go through surgery again!

Jane,

Eating is actually going pretty well right now. I was using

zip-n-squeeze (very convinient), but recently switched to just eating

with a tea spoon. It gives my jaw some exercise when I open and close

my mouth. I just blend whatever food we have for dinner (usually by

adding water - I found out that adding water instead of milk or broth

keeps the taste of the original dinner pretty well). Since I can

remove my bands whenever I want, I can open my mouth now about 2

fingers, and I'm working on opening it more. I can also brush my

teeth pretty well, which is nice. My doctor said he rarely wires

people, which I'm very very greatful for. I don't know how you guys

do it. Right after surgery I was drinking a lot of milk shakes,

carnation instant breakfasts and yougurts, but too much milk is

killing my stomach. I never had problems with dairy, but I guess I

never ate so much of it either :). I was actually cleared to start

chewing soft foods about a week afterwards, but it is quite difficult

to do with the splint, so I'm waiting to get that thing out of my

mouth to start chewing.

Irene.

Yes, it was a big issue about a year after we married. I was having

a laproscopy and he really wantedto scrub in. I didn't want him too

and the doctor said sure! Then last minute our doctor let us know of

the new hospital policy! Whew...

,

I work at an elementary school and right next store is a crawfish

catering company! They boil crawfish all day long...OUTSIDE! So

when I take my kids to recess, enrichment, lunch you got it I smell

crawfish all day. And the season is just beginning. I AM STARVING.

However, after this nightmare appointment today my mouth still hurts

and I don't even want to drink anything. Sigh....
