Guest guest
Will just say at this point that my wife had RNY on 6/23, on 6/20 as part of her pre op we had a serum pregnancy test done, it read Negative, but the following Sunday after surgery on Mondy the home test read positive and so did a followup. So she had surgery and we unaware that she had conceived and we think just some 12-14 days before her WLS. At the first meeting with out OBGYN I had a standard list of things that WLS patients need to take. Suffice to say this Dr is the husband of a husband/wife team that delivered our other child and we are personally acquainted. They are well aware of my experience with WLS and are most enthused about the positive health benefits that accrue as a reult of it. When I presented my list of items that WLS patients need I asked him to carefully look it over and tell me if there was anything that could potentially be harmful to the baby. The only comment he made was about some of the labs giving us some outta sync readings for awhile, and not to give her more than one caplet of A & D with A not to exceed 5,000IU dosage per day. He also said to do the prenatals if she could. The list, btw, includes but is not limited to, polysacharide Iron of a min 150mg per day, would be better if it were two, calcium citrate and magnesium four times a day, and other essentials, B-12,,,,,etc,,,,,We agreed to do labs every 90 days and he liked the labs that I suggested and added a few. He was most cooperative in that he would sync labs with the WLS surgeon, etc., but yet, the WLS surgeon's lab list is not as comprehensive as mine (the one we all recommend standard here). I have decided that if the surgeon will not do all the labs, then I will just go to her PCP, or the OBGYN and get them. She is going to get all of the labs. I am just saying that I was most appreciate of the enlightened attitude of the OBGYN and the attitude of cooperation. In the beginning, she was not having morning/noon/night sickness but she is now. She could get in two are three protein drinks per day, and that is EXACTLY what the obgyn wanted her to do. This is a challenge for all. Now it is especially challenging in that she is very very sick,,,,,,weak,,,and getting weaker and taking the anti nauseau drug they prescribe for chemo patients, and the suppositories at night as well. Now, it is a race just to keep her hydrated and if I can get in one protein drink per day, we count ourselves lucky. We are both scared and not sure where all of this is going, but we are grateful for the great medical folks we are blessed with. Good luck to you! Guest guest
Essa, If you had the gastric bypass, I wouldn't stop taking anything. In fact, I would add to it. Adding the prenatal vitamins is not a bad idea. Keep in mind that you know your body better then anyone. Although your doctor can make recommendations, it is ultimately your choice to follow them or not. If your OB/GYN know nothing or very little about your wls, it is better to follow the recommendations of those that have been there. I believe there is a graduate or ossg group for pregnant women. You might want to check it out.l Lori Owen - Denton, Texas SRVG 7/16/01 Dr. Ritter/Dr. Bryce 479/335/??? I have known non WLS women who have been this way during their pregnancy. The OB/GYN will IV her before they let it go to far. The baby eats first, so the only worry is keeping your wife hydrated. I hope this phase of the pregnancy passes soon and she is feeling better. You have a good medical team. Guest guest
A note on prenatal vitamins. Ihad my doc prescribe prenatal for me to try to help with costs of vitamins - then I only need a copay. Anyway, whencomoparing the prenatals to the multi-vits I was already taking, the prenatals had LESS vits in them. The ones I was/am taking are the ones from Vitalady. Now, mabe there are different levels of prenatals, I don't know, but the ones I compared definitely were not as good as the ones I take normally. So,compare the ingredients. Guest guest
I also had that experience. The prenatals were worthless as far as I could tell.
