I have been lurking for a while now trying to decide if I really can go through this. Thank you for sharing your stories. I have a few questions. Is there anyone from land who has the surgery? Also I don't have a lot of support from family and friends. Basiclly they think why put yourself through this when you can just lose weight with weight watchers and such. My mother, father, and stepmother have all lost over 50 pounds doing weight watchers and think I am just taking the easy way out. I don't think this will be easy. Actually it sounds like it will be harder than what they did but they don't see that. Sorry just needed to vent. (Boy it is easy to ramble away.) Guest guest
Well certainly this is not the 'easy' way out although people think that from the 'outside' looking in. I have debated and debated and the more horror stories I hear the more fearful I become. Before my accident in 2000 I worked for the gov't for decades. Even with a Phd I could not make up my mind. lol Finally, I feel like this: Yes I am a bit hesitant and maybe even frightened but I have done low carbs and gained it all back. I have been in weight wathchers and was the envy of everybody in the group and gained it all back+. I don't want to be a 'meeting addict' like some of those folks who do weightwatchers week after week only to lose a pound here or there and gain back 5. I am only 329 pounds but I have a coronary stent and acid reflux and sleep with a bi-pap and have high blood pressure and cannot run and cannot climb and cannot buy clothes off the rack and cannot have any self esteem whatsoever. I only have a few 'prime' years left and I want to be able to climb off a Harley without gasping for air. lol The trade off is forget what family and friends think and the stigma of such a move. If we have done our homework and we want to feel healthy again than we really have NO choice BUT to have this type of surgery. NO AMOUNT OF WILL POWER (which I don't have anyway when it comes to food) WITHOUT THIS SURGERY WILL KEEP ME FROM EATING THE WRONG THINGS OR OVER EATING THE RIGHT ONES! I basically NEED this surgery to go on living...or rather...perhaps live for the first time in a very long time... > Hello everybody. Guest guest
I guess you won't be inviting her to anymore parties in the future. And if she asks, please make sure to tell her! I actually had a woman (who I invited > to my house for the 4th of July) tell me that as far as she's > concerned the surgery is like buying yourself a new body. Guest guest
I would imagine there would be clotting problems with the birth control pills. > yes i had a friend that was on birth control and had to stop it one month > prior to surgery. not sure why but i remember she had to change her surgery date > because of it. > > laurette > 4/23/04 open RNY > 309/290/253/150 > > >
Guest guest
I am scheduled for July 19th also. Best of luck to you. > hi > I am from land also and although i haven't had surgery yet i am scheduled for july 19, 2004. just 16 days away. i'm sorry you're not getting the support you need right now. so many people don't understand about this being a lifestyle change, not just " the easy way out " . i have had a few people think the same about me doing it. i agree with you, this will be harder than other " diets " in alot of ways. we will have alot of mental issues to deal with besides the change in eating habits. i have done every diet known to man and been succesful for awhile, always to gain it back plus some. you just have to remember this is for you and no one else. i know it isn't the same but you'll find lots of support here. there are a lot of great people here that can relate to anything that comes up and will be happy to support you in your decision. feel free to email me off site or im me at easternshoreaquarian68 on yahoo. > Good Luck to you > > gale in maryland > open rny july 19, 2004 > surgery- August 17 > > > > Hello everybody.
