Guest guest
Lots of folks. It can be " the itch that can't be scratched. " It can be a kind of sharp, stabbing pain. It can be a kind of burning. Usually it means that the nerves are trying to regenerate or reconnect. A few folks do have permanent numbness, most to a smaller degree than larger, but a few almost complete. Your doc's advice is sound, from what I've read on these boards. For some folks, it's actually taken more than a year to regain sensation. > > Hi all, > > I'd like to ask those who have had surgery behind them for a year or > more, is the numbness permanent? Guest guest
I had the surgery to advance my lower jaw last week. I have significant numbness from my lower lip to my chin (like a goatee). I have started to notice some sensation coming back on one side (hot and cold) and some tingling throughout. I gather that this is a good sign of things trying to regenerate. I get the same pitch from my doctor -- give it time and we'll see. I gather that if the nerve was only traumatized and not cut that most/all function will return. Regarding the phanton itch -- I had it too and it is the damnedest feeling -- you scratch and nothing happens. It seemed to go away as the tingling came in. I just don't think there are any absolutes here. --- In orthognathicsurgerysupport , " humble_carp " <isantoso81@h...> wrote: > > Hi all, > > I'd like to ask those who have had surgery behind them for a year or > more, is the numbness permanent?
