Guest guest
hi beth, today we brought JM to dr. julyn aguilar. she told us that indeed she was amazed by how effective the ponseti method is. she even explained the principles of the treatment using a model figure of a club foot. she told us that last september, she went to see dr. ponseti and how she learned the technique. she asked us if we will be patient enough to try the ponseti method on JM because it will really take a while. she also told us that this is the first time she will treat a 5 year old using the ponseti method. her oldest treatment is 1 1/2 years old. we also talked about the 3 1/2 years old child that dr. ponseti treated -- she was also amazed by that because she was there during the treatment. she also explained to us the other treatments used in the past like the kite method and the ilzarov method and of course surgery. we decided to still try the ponseti method since surgery will always be an option. we just hope it will work on jm even now that he is older. he is experiencing adjustments and cried a bit because he cannot move his casted foot. he used to run a lot. tomorrow, we will buy him a wheelchair so that he can still be mobile at school. do you know of anyone who was treated with the same age as jm? i would really like to hear their experiences. please pray for jm -- so that he will have the patience to bear the treatment. best regards, cynthia --------------------------------- Relax. Guest guest
, I am so glad that Dr. Aguilar is going to try to help JM using the Ponseti method. How fortunate that she was in Iowa and saw Dr. Ponseti treating (the 3.5 year old who is now 4!), as inspiration. I'm sure that Dr. Aguilar will also be comfortable consulting with Dr. Ponseti about JM's case if she has any concerns or questions, so that will be a great resource as well! There are a few stories about older children that I've gathered on the ponseti_links site. One in particular that will hopefully be inspiring to you is Georgi's story. She was also corrected surgically as a baby and they were able to use the Ponseti method on her at 6 years old to avoid additional surgery. Georgi is from the UK. Here is the link to the site: http://members.tripod.com/ponseti_links-ivil and click on the tab where it mentions the method helping older children. I'm hopeful that in just a short time, we're able to put JM's story up on the site as further inspiration to other families! We're looking forward to hearing JM's updates! Get some paints and markers and decorate that cast!
