Guest guest
Zulu, I'm sorry to hear that. I think I have a crossbite too - my upper and lower arches are definitely different. I hope the ortho can fix it - I'm quite uncomfortable because of it. > > i had lower jaw advancement in may 2004 - almost 1 year ago and i'm > still in braces... > > today i found out that i have a cross bite and my ortho is trying to > correct it. could this explain the asymmetry i notice in my face? > > apparently, a resulting cross-bite is common after lower jaw > advancement... i'm not sure if i believe that... > > anways, right now my back upper arch are narrower than my lower back > arch...it's supposed to be the other way around... this could > explain why i feel that i looked better before the surgery... > > I'm supposed to be in braces for another 7 months! > > will this journey ever end? Guest guest
after doing some reading, it appears that the crossbite was probably causing my asymmetry: http://www.doctorspiller.com/orthodontics.htm#Crossbites " Posterior crossbites like this can have pronounced effect on the overall facial appearance, especially when they are unilateral (on one side of the mouth only). When a unilateral posterior crossbite is present in a young person, it can cause asymmetric development of the facial muscles and the jaw joint which means that one side of the face may grow larger than the other. Guest guest
Well, I keep biting the inside of my left cheek every time I chew, and it's painful. Also, my lower arches on left and right are not the same, and it is causing my lower lip to appear assymetric. I think it can be fixed by moving my teeth to provide more support the lip, so that it doesn't " fall in " on one side. This situation happened because of the way they moved my lower jaw during surgery (plus, I have one tooth missing on the right, and that's not helping either). I really hope they can take care of this, because outside and inside it doesn't look good. Keep us updated on your progress. > > > > > > i had lower jaw advancement in may 2004 - almost 1 year ago and > i'm > > > still in braces... > > > > > > today i found out that i have a cross bite and my ortho is > trying to > > > correct it. could this explain the asymmetry i notice in my > face? > > > > > > apparently, a resulting cross-bite is common after lower jaw > > > advancement... i'm not sure if i believe that... > > > > > > anways, right now my back upper arch are narrower than my lower > back > > > arch...it's supposed to be the other way around... this could > > > explain why i feel that i looked better before the surgery... > > > > > > I'm supposed to be in braces for another 7 months! > > > > > > will this journey ever end?
