Yana,How exciting for you! You know I have lived in the US, the Netherlands, England, and Scotland, travelled to Oman, India, and Europe, but NEVER have I visited New York. I wish to go one day and look up my grandmother's name in the Ellis Island records! My one note is check the power requirements for your immersion blender. The US uses 110-120 volts at 60 Herz. Most of the rest of the world (with a few exceptions) use 220-240 Volts at 50 or 60 Herz. So look at the plug or on the handle for something that reads 110-240 V 50/60 Hz. If it doesn't say that, it most likely won't work (unless you know your home country is the exact same power as in the US) and little travel

voltage converters will not work (they are only meant to work for about 8 minutes and they don't convert the Herz). The good news is that your camera charger and laptop charger most likely will work just fine with a plug adapter --usually available at the airport.Congrats on your two year anniversary! Have fun!AmeliaHusband UC 9 years, SCD 20 monthsLDN 3mgTo: BTVC-SCD Sent: Mon, February 22, 2010 4:06:24 PMSubject: USA trip - New York, San

Francisco. Please help and suggestions

Hello list-mates,

I'm so exited, I'm going on a long trip to the USA - SCD country :)

As I said to one of my friends - I'm going to see the famous Whole foods!

So of course first thing for me is to ask your advices, suggestions and guidance about almost everything.

Long story short, we'll stay in Pleasant Hill, CA, near San Francisco so anything about that area will be helpful to know.

We'll be living in a hotel with small kitchen - stove top and microwave (not healthy I know but at least is something. I'll bring my immersion blender with me. I don't eat yogurt so that won't be a problem.

But I have a lot of questions about:

1. Flight - JODI :) Please, you are our most recent traveler. Any problems with food, with TSA?

2. Legal thing to by form the store. What stores to by from.

3. Any particular restaurants if we want to go out.

4. And last but not least, not at all, we'll stay in New York for 24 hours and of course we want to make the best of it. I know it sounds naive, but it is one of the two USA cities I always wanted to visit and now it's happening. (BTW the other one is New Orleans, I'm so envious Marilyn)

So any advices for New York? Don't be shy, please :)

Restaurant to go to dinner?

Well, I'm over my head because it will be my first trip since I was diagnosed and since I started SCD. Actually at the 6 of March it will be 2 years for me. I'm celebrating it in San Francisco!

But I have only 6 days to prepare for the long flight , very long a night in New York and another flight.

So once again any advice will be helpful. Go ahead!

TIA

Yana

Soon to be 2 years on SCD

PS. I have to say that I don't eat a lot of things - mostly meat and veggies and recently I started testing eggs. I hope it won't be too hard to prepare these in the hotel.

Hey Amelia,

Thanks! You made a very good point. And of course you're right. It won't work.

Not only the blender but my hair dryer too and may be lots of thing I can't

think of now. And I thought having the plug adapter is enough (I've got one

multi functional from previous travels)

Another thing to start wondering.

Yana,You can ask the hotel if they have a hair dryer that you can use, that should take care of that problem. I don't know what to suggest for the the immersion blender though.
