Guest guest
, I did not have this exact thing happen but I have had to deal with an arrogant Physicians Assistant that thought he was God. I gained 112 lbs in 8 months. I went from wearing a size 7 shoe to a size 12 men's shoe. I was tired all of the time. I had diabetic sores for 9 months that were not healing. The edema in my feet and legs was awful. Yet I was told nothing was wrong with me. I finally asked what the warning signs of heart disease in women were. He proceeded to tell me the signs of a heart attack in men. I asked him 7 times about heart disease in general. He had NO CLUE. I ended up in the hospital with congestive heart failure (gee, ya thank that might be a heart disease.) So what did I do? I found a physician who believed that I knew more about my body then anybody and was willing to listen to me. Problem solved. Consider changing PCP's immediately. Guest guest
Isn't it amazing what we have to go through just to get a good doctor who will listen to us? I actually had a physician's assistant tell me one time that there were only two reasons people were overweight... " gluttony and laziness " !!!!! Should I even say that I no longer go to that doctor. I have since found one that believes in my ability to know when there is something wrong. She may not always know what it is right away, but she doesn't give up on me either. She has faith that I know my body. If it wasn't for her, I probably would never have had the surgery, and would still weight 279 pounds (or more by now), be on insulin, high blood pressure medication, and who knows what else. I actually should thank that stupid PA sometime... if not for her, I would not be where I am today. Guest guest
, I can't tell you why God put @##holes here on this earth. But I can talk iron with you. My ferritin got down to 5 as well, the same slow descent over the past 5 years, and I was feeling bad....sleepy. I've been on Niferex150 twice a day for 3 weeks. I got tested again, and ferritin was only up 2 points. Hemoglobin still at 12.7. I was convinced I felt better, even though the tests didn't support that. My PCP decided it wasn't fast enough, so I'm on Niferex elixir (liquid) 300mg three times a day in orange juice. I'm starting tomorrow after I finish the " poop-smear " portion of my physical. The distressing thing is that one of my liver tests, which have *always* been " normal " doubled in that three week period. SGOT (AST) went from 28 to 57. Weird and disturbing. GGT has been within 2 points since 2000. Good luck to both of us with the liquid....we'll have to compare notes. in Austin RNY April 1998 Yet another iron/anemia question > I have a question about iron / anemia and want to see what others > with this problem have heard from their physician on this. Guest guest
I probably should thank the PA too. He did referr me to the physician that I have now for a sleep study. This physician visited me one to two times a day the entire time I was in the hospital. My PA never did. Lori Owen - Denton, Texas SRVG 7/16/01 Dr. Ritter/Dr. Bryce 479/335/??? Guest guest
Ditto! I went through several of those " god " doctors before I found one that respected me as a person, even though I was MO. She is heavy into diet and exercise, but when I went in with GBP on my mind, I informed her this was what I was doing, and would she or would she not support me. I was fully prepared to move on. She agreed, and has stuck with me throughout. She's been great, as I learn, she learns too. We work together on the project called " me! " Regards~ Jacque Distal RNY, 5/30/00 Drs. Guest guest
You all are CRACKING ME UP!! I know he is an A** and yes, I have had several people tell me that. :-) I am working on finding a new PCP currently. I am trying to get some references from others so I don't end up with another one just like my current one. I would like to see a female (sorry guys...) as it seems they are not as harsh to deal with. My current male Dr. has made a lot of derogatory fat female comments that I just don't think I would get from a woman. However, I am having a hard time finding a woman that is taking new patients. Oh well, I will keep looking. On another note, I have decided to try and turn over a new leaf since it doesn't seem this last 100 lbs I would like to lose is going to fall off of me magically in my sleep. I am trying to get back in the exercise groove since I am no longer sleeping 24/7. I got on my treadmill today and wouldn't you know, the dang thing just burned right up with me on it. I smelled a slight burning smell but didn't think anything of it. I think I had it in my head that my tennis shoes on the belt were making the smell but obviously I was QUITE wrong. There is nothing harsher than jogging along @ 4.5 MPH on a treadmill and everything comes to a screeching deadhalt. The treadmill is @ 6 years old and has a lot of miles on it so I guess it was time. However, in the past I would have thought it was a sign from God that I needed to give up on exercise. Ha! Well, I am off to buy a treadmill... Guest guest
My doctor is a legend in his own mind. And he doesn't just treat ME that way, he treats my hubby that way too (Hubby tore up his elbow 2 months ago, that the good doctor perscirbed ibuprofen for. That's it. He goes back tomorrow, because he can't pick up a cup of coffee) . NOBODY knows as much as he does about ANYTHING. I hate him, and I hate Pacificare. For $300 a month, we pay them to treat us like idiots. I NEED a revision. I KNOW I need a revision. I've needed it for several years. I've lost all my teeth and have dentures. TWICE now, I've had upper GI, lower GI, and endo and colon scopes. And a boatload of medications that don't work, because THEY DON'T TREAT THE PROBLEM. Last week, I had a FREE consultation with the assisting surgeon for my WLS. He told me exactly what was wrong with mine, drew me a picture, and how to fix it. And he told me to have my doctor call him to discuss it. He can't treat me. He knew that when he talked to me. He's not on my HMO. MY (HMO) doctors won't even discuss it. With me or with him. Yesterday, I threw up three times. Not a bite of food in my stomach all day. Today, I've had less than 1 ounce of cheese, and it about bit me. Nothing else. I'm at a point that I intend to call Pacificare tomorrow and tell them we can settle my bills in court, and they can discuss it with my attorney. Can you tell I'm angry, sick, and tired? Why do they all think we're too stupid to know what we're talking about? Re: Yet another iron/anemia question Ditto! Guest guest
I've been fortunate to have found some damned good doctors. And, the really good ones refer me to other really good ones (for specialty things), so my chain of good fortune with docs has been largely unbroken. My PCP and the cardiologist he had referred me to both willingly read all the DS info that I brought to them, and they learned along with me. Both have subsequently referred patients to my WLS doc, and my success and our joint learning experiences have had a lot to do with that. That having been said, one wag once remarked: " Think back to high school home room; and now remind yourself which of the dim bulbs (actually, he used a more pejorative term) there became doctors and lawyers. Guest guest
I agree Jacque. You need a new doctor. I so much hate jerks that think they now everything. And legends are even worse. They know they are Gods. Unfortunately no one told us peons that they were Gods. Please find a new PCP and write that letter to the insurance company with an attorney. Maybe there are fewer female docs with that, but there's no guarantee that female = compassion, or easier to deal with, talk to, etc. Carol A
