Guest guest
I'm wondering if anybody can tell me the difference between "regular" dates and medjool dates. I mean: I know that medjools are bigger and somewhat softer, but what's the difference in terms of the diet? Why are medjools ok and regular dates aren't? Is there a substantive or chemical difference between the two? Aren't they esentially just two varieties of the same fruit? Is there even a such thing as 'regular' dates? The BTVC website says Medjool and California dates are legal, and doesn't say if there are any types that are NOT legal. I'm not sure what other kinds there are. Other than dinner dates and movie dates =) Peace =)Alyssa 15 yoUC April 2008, dx Sept 2008SCD June 2009 (restarted)Chinese Herbs (not legal but helping!) There are a number of varieties/cultivars of dates, just as there are of most fruits. I can't find anything that says there's any difference in terms of carbohydrates they contain. The Medjools are far larger, and moister, which is why they cost so much compared to the ordinary varieites. And some contain sulpher from the drying process, and some don't; just as with all dates. I suppose as with most fruit, it's best to buy organic. I thought that dates other than Medjools are illegal on SCD. But I can't find any reason why they should be, if that's so. n -- Now available. No substantive difference, but apparently, Medjools are less likely to have syrup added to them. And, of course, we want to avoid sugar syrup. Guest guest
n,I believe it is because all dates other than the Medjool date are actually soaked/coated with sugar syrup.AmeliaHusband UC 9 years, SCD 19 months LDN 3 mgTo: BTVC-SCD Sent: Thu, February 11, 2010 1:21:39 AMSubject: Question about dates (the edible kind) ;-) I'm wondering if anybody can tell me the difference between "regular" dates and medjool dates.
