Guest guest
: I am almost 11 months post-op and I am still wearing my braces. My braces come off in 15 days, thank god! I have been wearing my braces for 34 months. I think if you asked most people here is that the braces stayed on for some period after the surgery. But that depends on each case and what needs to be done. Good Luck.

I am looking forward to have it done and getting past this and moving on to the next step. When i first started this whole thing was back in 2002. When I went to see the denisit to see what all the talk was about, I went because I was having such seaver migraines and I figured after five yrs with have a headache everyday and having migriane at least 3 to 4 days a week that I should see what the denist had say as a last ditch effort. The denist felt that he could help me and I figure at what every cost it would be worth doing it. I first started off with a split for one year and in the process they felt that braces would help with the possibility of jaw surgery. Of course I prayed that I would not need surgery but lucky me did and does. The propose for the braces for not for me to have prefect looking teeth, but to have my teeth properly aligned. My teeth were not that crooked. I met with the orthodontist and told me that braces alone where not going to help my open bit, cross bit and end to end bit. So off I went to the surgeon and I was prime candidate for the surgery. I also found out that I have small airway. Oh lucky me and even more o being the lucky girl I have to have upper and lowe surgery done too! I am wondering if I could be any luckier. So after my teeth being aligned and going back to the surgeon he told me last year now that he would not do surgery on me until I lost weight.. OH god now what so I did as he asked lost he weight and now here we are waiting for surgery. I am not all that neverous about surgery rather excited then thing that I would say that I am neverous about is the pain, my surgeon says that it is the swelling that hurts, some how I tend do not believe it. But the orthodontist did say that I would be in braces another 12 to 18 months after surgery and I am healed. I found the web site listed here and placed an order for the bags, ice pack and book of recipes , what a great site I had no idea. All in all I feel really lucky to feel that I have the best team of denist, orthodontist and surgeon working for me. My denisit is right down the street from me but I do travel 2 1/2 hours away to the othro and 2 hour to the surgeon, but I want nothingbut the best for my mouth and I thing that I am accomplishing that! Guest guest
I think it's more likely that you will have them for at least a brief time after surgery. Usually the orthodontist does some " tweaking " here and there, and tightens up the bite, often using a pile of elastics. I had surgery at the end of June, and the appliances were removed the following October. But I held us up for a month, because the ortho didn't want to work on me while I had the shingles. some folks have them a lot longer, post op. I think it just depends on what you have to have done.
