Guest guest
I belong to about 8 lists -autism related, and yes, it can be a lot some days. But as you learn more and more about how the diet, or mercury chelation, or enzymes work, you get to where it's very easy to filter through what you can find useful. When we first started GFCF, it was bad, I felt like I had to read every single email to make sure something didn't or did pertain to my children. That will pass. Every time I felt overwhelmed with it, I just sat back and thought about how my children must feel when they are confronted with issues that are new to them and overwhelming. It just gives me more determination to do what ever it takes to get them through all this and better. I try to sort through mine at least once a day to not get too overloaded but it can take a couple of hours if I've let it pile up. Guest guest
Decent hour ????? I am on here sometimes till 1 am. I basically leave my computer on all day and kkep coming back to it throughout the day and checking for more email. I think I need to go to a 12 step computer anonymous meeting to get over this addiction!!!! Guest guest
As much as I wish I could, I can't read all of the posts. When time is short, I read the subject line for subjects that I am interested in -- It is so important for the subject line to be a good indicator of what is in the message -- If there is something that I am especially interested in, I search the archives. Guest guest
<My husband is supportive of any dietary changes as we've seen improvements but has commented that this has almost become a hobby.> We consider the diet, other therapies and the research involved (including these lists) to be more of a way of life than a hobby. The interventions that are necessary to save our asd children is a tremendous undertaking. I would advise bringing any and all people you can on board. Hubby, Mom, older sibs, friends, whoever. Anyone who can be of assistance. Pat in Ohio
Guest guest
I think you should change your membership. If I received all the messages as individual emails, I would go crazy too. There are three options, 1.read all as individual email [which it appears you selected], 2.receive all messages for a specific time period together as a digest in a single email, 3.do not receive ANY email, you have to come to the list/forum to read the messages [which is what I do]. This helps me because it is very easy to ignore the messages which do not interest me, I just do not click my mouse on them, and I don't have all this information cluttering up my email box. If you go to " edit my membership " on the top right of the screen here, you can change your membership.
Guest guest
Be ruthless in your speed-reading....if the topic (in the subject line, which I read first) does not immediately concern you (and you think it possibly won't...one example for me is potty training issues which we're through with), then even if it might be interesting delete it right away. I get as many as 75-80 of these a day, and can't really deal otherwise. I check email several times a day, when checking laundry (on the same floor) etc. so it's not as overwhleming. Then if it's an informative article, like the Kosher stuff or shortcut recipe subs or whatever, that I want to read later, I move it to a folder (so far I only have one folder but will need to make categories soon like supplements, recipes, legal issues, emotional, etc.). Then what's left I read REAL fast and reply as I have time or feel my response will benefit someone. Hope this helps a tiny bit! ) One more thing I do is periodically print out the recipes and articles, then delete them from the folder where they were saved. I put them in a folder (the articles) and the recipes in a large three ring binder until I can get around to copying some on index cards. I have a separate gfcf recipe box holder. Real pretty....to motivate me!!!!!! > I'm new to list (and internet) and am finding list extremely helpful > but > overwhelming. > How do > others manage this onslaught of helpful e-mail and still go to bed > at a > decent hour at night? Guest guest
All are great suggestions I've organized this seperate address by subject so if I read just one and find it doesn't pertain, I can delete as a group. Thanks for all of the feedback. Helene
Guest guest
Another way to keep organized is to print out the things you want to keep and put them in a three ring binder under subject headings then you don't have so much clutter in your inbox. __________________________________________________
Guest guest
That is a good idea but be aware somtimes we get off track by the reply button and the subject in the title is no longer what the message is about-you could mis somthing you want this way. Guest guest
I've already done this and with no results....I keep trying to get the digest form to try it out. Do you know what I could have done wrong? Or who I could write to to fix the problem? Thanks. -Another computer-age-insubstantiate. I made that one up. It's late.
