Guest guest
Having 3 with cf, Dr. Dobbs is really wanting me to come to St. Louis for treatment of this last baby when he's born and participate in his cf genetic study. I had no cf in my family (that we know of) but I had with cf. Then I remarried a man who does have cf in his family and both our sons have it too. There are no other issues involved though - no shorter limbs or other syndroms, deformities, etc. I'm interested in Dobb's work for the future generations. Maybe not soon enough to help my son's children, but maybe their grandchildren won't have to deal with it. s. Re: Unilateral Clubfoot - one leg shorter than the other??? Makes me wonder...one of my mom's legs is over an inch shorter than her other...she also had a baby born with spinal bifida. We cannot find cf in our family and my family (not myself mind you) is Mormon on both sides and has geneology going back a few hundred years. Not sure if club foot was there somewhere and just not metioned/covered up. But we haven't been able to find it anywhere on either side. With cf linked to spinal bifida, it has always made me wonder if this is one of the reasons for Grace having it. I am not sure if spinal bifida is in anyway linked to my mother's leg length discrepency but it wouldn't suprise me. So many questions! I can't wait until they isolate the club foot gene and find out answers to all of them! & Grace > > My daughter have 1 leg longer than the other. She is 4 months old. She was treated with the Ponseti method (not fully at first) the Dr. didnt know what he was doing, but she had a Tenotomy and then 3 more casts after that casue Dr. Ponseti fully corrected her after we traveled to see him cause the other Dr was an idiot. Anyhow, her current Dr. and another Ortho are currently trying to find WHY her leg is longer than the other. She has an appt. next Mon. to get more x-rays and an Ultrasound. The only thing said so far is maybe hip probs (by no real other symptoms of this so less likely), and the old saying that if you cut a tendon it can mess things up, and it CAN (not always) make limbs longer. I'll see what they say, and I'll keep you updated. > Christee > > > > Christee > Mother of Josh, Aspen, Dylan & > Lilee ~ Unilateral A-Typical Club Foot w/Cavus > & Metatarsus Adductus > > > --------------------------------- > Yahoo! Guest guest
Well, " Participating " in his study probably only means filling out a survey and giving a blood sample, sorry no lab coats or standing over bubbling beakers! LOL! But ya, I'm leaning towards going there anyway - same distance as to Iowa for us and Shriners helping with the bill doesn't hurt either. s. How far is it for you to travel to St. Louis? How are you feelin btw? Wouldn't that be great for you to be able to help in his research?! Hope it's doable for you and we would just love to know what is going on with the study!! & Grace & Grace

Guest guest
I don't have all the answers to the Shriner's questions as I am just now starting to look in to it, but it's my understanding they help considerably with the cost involved with treatment. Not all Shrine's have Ponseti Doctors, but the Shrine in St. Louis does (Dr. Dobbs). Other folks here have gone to him and he's spoken very highly of. I think they could help with travel costs if necessary. That's challenging at times but we've always managed to get to Iowa on our own nickel it's just the med bills eating us up. s Re: Re: Unilateral Clubfoot - one leg shorter than the other??? >>and Shriners helping with the bill doesn't hurt either.
