Guest guest
I had a lot of jaw stiffness but I have found that the moist heat pad has elped me incredibly!!! I went to Wal-mart and bought it for 10 dollars and within a couple of days I am almost at full opening range again. I can still fell my muscles tight around my jaw line but it is 10 dollars well spent, I put it on religiously sometimes even fall asleep with it on. ceast36532 <no_reply > wrote: Jane, Southern Belle ally -- It sounds to me as though you need a day or two to melt down. Honey, you are sooooo scared that being unwired won't be the best, um, physical experience (think paraphrase here) you've had yet, that you're not prepared to enjoy what you get! (T'aint so! Not that all that won't be better, soon. I'll leave your collective imaginations to talk amongst yourselves, on that point.) Try not to be sooooo frightened of that stiff jaw. If it happens --- Hey. It won't be any stiffer than you've had for what? 5? 6? 8? weeks? You'll move it back where it needs to be to work for you. Patience, patience, patience... (I know. Patience! Stomps her not-so-little foot! Bah! Humbug! You should have seen me when my surgeon refused to remove my splint after the promised six-week interval.) But just try not to work yourself into a genuwine tizzy over it all. I think going househunting at this point is probably not also the best idea you ever had. You're hungry, grouchy and exhausted. What house could you ever want, unless it had a soft CHEESEBURGER on the counter? With pickles (one of the hardest for me, post-op) and fries??? Hello-oh? Idea for Realtor orthognathic folks??? I've been told to bake cookies, or bread, for the household scent, but perhaps this is another notion!!! You want a CHEESEBURGER!!!! I don't blame you. Can you believe that a soft scrambled egg is the best thing I ever tasted? Still... And I am not a novice about eating. You'll get there. Meantime: Think Garlic Cheese Grits, with soft scrambled eggs, minced ham or sausage, French toast. Lots of things that need mushing, but not chewing.... Guest guest
Thanks Cammie, You are right about one thingfor sure...I'm grouchy! Have you ever been really hungry and when your food comes..its not the right order, and it makes you sooo angry! Well I've multiplied by 5 weeks. I am still sick!! Initially we were going to wait to go house hunting, however the market is supposedly hopping with rates threatening to rise. So now I am freaking out about leaving my sweet baby for TWO NIGHTS with my inlaws...I am definately planning a spa day in about 5 days. I am wound way too tight. At thispoint I don't know how to unwind myself but I am going to have to try. I used to look forward to the day my jaw is unwired. I thought it would be cake! But then I read one horror story on the message board and realized it may be like everything else about this surgery....worse than I imagined. Ok I'll try to lighten up. Guest guest
Pam, I am so happy to talk to someone from Tennesse. I am very excited about the move. I've heard only good things about the Chattanooga area. We are leaving tonight ang looking at houses tomorrow and Thursday. We have about 26 we found online that we like but want to get a feel for the neighborhoods. I get unwired Friday and guess I'm ready. My ortho called today and I was rescheduling the appt becuase I am not unwired yet but they want to see me anyway?? What in the world can he do but look at me while wired shut. I'm worried because my mouth is still sore from stitches. Maybe the ortho will just cut me free!! That would be good, but I don't know if they do that?? Oh well, he probably doesn't want to see me but the secretary doesn't listen sometimes. I am soon going to be looking for teaching jobs in Chattanooga. I have been researching schools. Hopefully I'll get a good idea when we come up of the better areas. I'll have tolet you know if we find something! Thanks for the reply. Its good to hear that the unwiring experience may not be painful!! Thanks,Also its good to know of a doctor there in case I have any follow up work. We are moving the first of June. Guest guest
Jane, grouchy is perfectly acceptable. I think Mother would have been grouchy if she'd had her jaw wired shut for a month. And you're not expected to be Mother ! Any time you're ready to buy anything, I find, the market will be hopping and you'll be told over and over again how fortunate you are to be offered this or that deal, and that you'll never have such a chance again. Look carefully and hold out for what you really want and can afford. And if one house eludes your grasp, it's likely that another, better choice will come along, sooner or later. (Didn't I tell you that this procedure teaches patience?) And about the little one: They are your in-laws, but just think, they're your child's grandparents. And as Haley once told me in an interview (to drop a name), there is a special link between the grands. Suggestion for spa day: A massage? Along with all the other goodies. Honestly, I don't think the unwiring is a problem for most people. The ones who have internal wires have more trouble, sometimes, but even then, it's not really bad. And if it gets bad, don't hesitate to ask the doc for some help. He should be able to provide relief and keep you comfortable, I'd think. Good luck -- on house, child-care, unwiring and a cheeseburger! Guest guest
Cammie, I know. I try to think about how much I loved my grandparents on my dads side while my mom detested them. I am a bit of a control freak with my . She has only been away at night during the surgery and I woke up wanting to know how she was while throwing up blood and in between panic attacks! One reason I teach elementary is to keep close tabs on her all day for the first 6 years of school! I know I 'm bad, but I also enjoy what I do. I hate to be away from her for any amount of time. When I first had her she hardly ever cried and so when she did cry I would cry. Then when her umbilical chord fell off I cried because i couldn't help thinking she was going to grow up and go to college. My poor husband didn't know what to say!! I can't wait to talk to her again clearly, even more than I want that cheeseburger (and you know how many weeks I've talked about that cheeseburger!) I am definately planning myself a massage with manicure and pedicure and the works (I think I may skip the facial). I can use my birthday as the perfect excuse (even though its passed its still close enough!) I feel better about being unwired although I asked my grandmother to hold off and cook my chicken and dumplings, black eyed peas, and mama nita cake next weekend instead of this weekend! Maybe I can enjoy it more then. I can almost imagine life being normal again. I can only hope I gain my weight back and don't keep on gaining! Oh well, I don't even care. I have a variety of sizes now. My husband assures me I won't die of starvation and that people do it all the time he said its called models! Hee, hee, he uses my boniness to make model jokes all the time. At least one of us still has a sense of humor.
