I only eat 1 tbsp a day. I don't think I could handle 3. That's a lot of fat!

Holly,Unless you have problems digesting fats for some reason, healthy fats like coconut oil are fantastic. Every single cell in your body is surrounded by a layer of fat--it is required! In coconut oil is a fantastic way to cook apples. It adds texture and richness to smoothies too. The calories added will help you keep your caloric intake up while adding other goodness to your body all while helping you feel sated after eating--not to mention helping to keep your blood sugar at an even level for the long periods between meals.AmeliaHusband UC 9 years, SCD 19 monthsLDN 3 mgTo: BTVC-SCD Sent: Tue, February 2, 2010 4:13:44 AMSubject: Re: I am a YEAST MONGOR!!!!!

Holly,I am going to parrot Sky here, but have you had your adrenals and thyroid levels checked? www.stopthethyroidmadness.com has loads of information. Also, have you had your ferritin (stored iron, versus circulating iron) checked lately? These things will dramatically affect fatigue. When dealing with a chronic autoimmune illness, the body is very stressed and the adrenals can get tired.AmeliaTo: BTVC-SCD Sent: Tue, February 2, 2010 4:23:46 AMSubject: Re: I am a YEAST MONGOR!!!!!

It's strange, whenever I did the spit test in the past, I passed with flying colors (even when I was on Humira). But when I did it the other day, I failed :-(. Strange, since I eat fewer carbs now then I used to.

I eat a piece of cheese occasionally, but not daily.

I have zinc in my multi, but maybe it's not enough.

It also occurred to me that since I no longer digest veggies well (no symptoms, just the undigested food in stool), that it could be feeding yeast. I was fine with carrots and everything else from day 1 on SCD, but starting in Nov, I seemed to have lost my ability to digest them. I even added back enzymes, but it didn't help at all. My last Humira dose was in september, so maybe my body misses it.

My massive fatigue from LDN is at least gone. I dropped from 4 mg to 2 mg (and have since gone back to 3 mg), and that took care of it. Now I just have my old regular fatigue ;-).

I took garlic pills all last week, and yesterday switched to olive leaf extract. Maybe this will help kill any yeast still lurking around in my body.

I had my adrenals checked a year or so ago. If I recall, they drew blood at 8

am, injected something into me, and then drew blood every 15 minutes or so over

the next hour. They said my adrenals were okay.

My thyroid has been checked a lot. Once it was low, but all the other times I

tested in normal range. I have a new thyroid test (T4 I think?) in about a

month.

My ferritin is also checked regularly. It's been good, and I haven't needed an

iron infusion for about 1 1/2 years (hurray!).

I have always suspected thyroid for my fatigue (I fit so many of the symptoms),

even though the doctors don't seem to think there is anything wrong. However, my

fatigue is at its worst is in the morning and afternoon, and I am most awake in

the evening, which seems to go along with adrenal fatigue. Who knows, huh ;-)

Hi Holly,

The problem is that most doctors don't have a clue when it comes to thyroid and adrenals. A saliva test is the best test for adrenals. Bloods are not reliable becuase you cannot get levels for the whole day.

Do you have any thyroid results you can post. You might be in the range but it depends where you are in that range.

Do you know the actual number for your ferritin level?

You can post me offline if you want to.

i think it was my 24 hour urine cortisol levels being off that let my doc know

adrenals were off then too

I dug around in what records I have, and found the following:

3/31/2009 - TSH = 3.99 (Range 0.450 - 4.500)

Next month I have another TSH test (reflex to free T4 if abnormal). I will also

have a B12 and Folate test.

My last ferritin test was something like 50 (range 10 -291). The one before that

was 99. I think after my last iron infusion (1.5 years ago) it was over 300, and

has been steadily dropping with each 6 month test. My hemoglobin is usually 12 -

14.

I bookmarked the Stop the Thyroid Madness site, and will read up before my next

doctors appointment.

Holly,Just a heads up, the new (as of about 2003) recommended reference range for 'normal' TSH levels is .3 - 3.2. If your lab/doctor isn't using that, they are woefully uninformed. BTW, when I discovered a lump on my thyroid gland, my doctor immediately gave me a TSH, Free T4, Free T3, and antibody tests. In short, my 'normal' TSH was 1.8. I have done a lot of reading on the subject. What I have read is that if one is NOT taking thyroid medication, most people reported feeling 'good' when their TSH was around 2. Having said all that, even though it is poor form to diagnose on TSH alone, you would definitely have a case for being hypo based on just your TSH level from March. Definitely read the Stop the Thyroid Madness site. I just bought

the book (thanks to Sky!) and am still reading it. Being prepared with information and desired tests to be taken (and justification for them) goes along way with MOST caring doctors. Good luck!AmeliaHusband UC 9 years, SCD 19monthsLDN 3 mgTo: BTVC-SCD Sent: Mon, February 8, 2010 12:48:41 AMSubject: Re: I am a YEAST MONGOR!!!!!

Very good to know! On the one hand, I'm very excited that I may have a solution

to my fatigue problems. On the other hand, I'm ticked off that I've been

pestering my doctors for more then 10 years about this, and they always tell me

my thyroid is just fine. Grr!

Holly,If you have gone on for ten years with this problem, you definitely need to have your adrenals checked too. They are probably pretty taxed from taking up the slack from the low thyroid. Adrenal fatigue will also mean that you are possibly not producing enough natural hydrocortisone -- the body's own natural anti-inflammatory response among other functions -- and is what prednisone (an unnatural synthetic) is designed to mimic.AmeliaHusband UC 9 years, SCD 19 monthsLDN 3mgTo: BTVC-SCD Sent: Wed, February 10, 2010 6:42:29 AMSubject: Re: I am a YEAST MONGOR!!!!!

eileen, i think i said this on the pecadbread list too, but try google

therapeutic doses of iodine. we have seen FANTASTIC results with iodine (we're

talking like 50 mgs for an adult). nothing in the mcg range will do the trick.
