Guest guest
Quite often, especially if our body doesn't need them, extra vitamins are excreted in our urine. The strong color/smell will probably be this. jena We talk so much about poop, but now I've got a question about my pee :)For the past few days it's been smelling really strong (like when you eat asparagus)- it has a sweet yet acidic smell. The only changes I've made in the past few weeks is that I've added a little bit of nut butter and started taking a second multivitamin. I figure it's either my body peeing out some vitamin/mineral from the multi or something more serious...Has anyone experienced the same thing?-JoannaSCD 9/2009, Crohn's 1992, 30mg Prednisone

That's probably all it is =) Peace =)Alyssa 15 yoUC April 2008, dx Sept 2008SCD June 2009 (restarted)Azathioprine 50 mg 1x per dayPrednisone 40 mg 1x per day
Guest guest
If yourt pee is a bright yellowish color then it's niacin. Water soluble and your body doesn't keep any more than it uses. Multivitamins generally have way more than your body could ever need in a day. I bet if you skip the vitamin for a day your pee will be normal, then try the vitamin and within 6 hours you'll have the smell again.-UC - 1+ yearsSCD - 7 months 100% strict and 4 months restricted diet.Asacol - 5 pills a dayTo: BTVC-SCD From: luckycharms@...Date: Wed, 3 Mar 2010 19:39:15 -0500Subject: Re: TMI- Strange Smell Quite often, especially if our body doesn't need them, extra vitamins are excreted in our urine. Guest guest
Just an FYI. One of the interesting bits of information I come across in my research. [grin] Only about 10% to 15% of a multivitamin or other vitamin/mineral supplement in a tablet form ends up in our bloodstream…. The rest ends up excreted in our urine. The absorption percentages increase in a softgel capsule, up to 25 to 30%. Better absorption when a liquid form is used, close to 100%. The dosages in a multivitamin tablet are high, so that the small amount that is actually absorbed by our bodies is enough to be effective. Which means a lot ends up in the urine, causing odd colors and smells. Kim M. Guest guest
was right! The smell was gone within the day when I didn't take the second multi-vitamin. So interesting. Kim- I am curious about your research- do you have a liquid mulitvitamin that you like? I hate the idea of trying to get these vitamins/minerals in my body and then just excreting them. -Joanna SCD 9/2009, Crohn's 1992, 30mg Prednisone > > Just an FYI. Guest guest
you can get a multivitamin/mineral in liquid form but nothing will be as complete as what you can get in dry form. you'll see a short list of nutrition info on a liquid supplement compared to it's dry pill form counterpart. An even better option is to get them through phytonutrients, IE: fruits/veggies/ect. I look at it if you're peeing them out, you know you've got enough for your body to use. Unless they came out with something new within the last 3 years? Not too up to date anymore.-UC - 1+ yearsSCD - 7 months 100% strict and 4 months restricted diet.Asacol - 5 pills a dayTo: BTVC-SCD From: joannaultman@...Date: Fri, 5 Mar 2010 17:35:22 +0000Subject: Re: TMI- Strange Smell was right!
