Most likely culprit was the raw broccoli.. I still sometimes have trouble with this one too. Guest guest
, I've had problems with raw veggies since my surgery 21 years ago. The problem never went away, and I rarely eat salad, and when I do, it isn't very much. However, I eat a lot of steamed veggies, and I've never had any problem with them. I guess the heat breaks them down enough to make them easier to digest. Soft raw fruits, like peaches, melon, grapes, don't bother me. Apples do. I made myself a little salad yesterday with these things in it. I don't have much of it because after the protein....well, you know...not much room left! I had a little at lunch and a little at dinner. The gas pain and bloating last night was unbearable....along with the smell once the gas decided to move (nuclear blasting zone....I know where the weapons of mass destruction are....not in Iraq!!). I think it was the veggies...as I don't eat them raw that often. Is this a problem for any of you? Guest guest
I don't do lettuce at all anymore. Got some stuck. Almost ended up with an endoscopy! It moved before they had to do that though. Kim O
Guest guest
Certain raw veggies give me gas almost all of the time particularly onions and peppers. Lettuce will occasionally give me gas if I eat to much. Lori Owen - Denton, Texas SRVG 7/16/01 Dr. Ritter/Dr. Bryce 479/335/??? Guest guest
I actually had a friend of mine who had the surgery way back in the early years and he has warned me about eating raw veggies (especially carrots) so I've never even tried them. I just make sure that they are cooked rather well (broccoli, carrots, cauliflower). But now salads I don't have a problem with. Guest guest
I once ate a few raw carrots - they sat in my little stomach for 3 days- i couldn't eat only drink- i couldn't bring them up because the amount was so small- that was about the sickest I have been post surgery- finally they did come up a little green- I do not eat raw carrots any more! Guest guest
Raw veggies and salads have never bothered me, but I know that a lot of people can't tolerate them. I eat raw veggies all the time - cauliflower, green beans, peas, carrots & celery are my favorite. I don't like raw broccoli, so I don't know if I could tolerate it or not. With salads, I have to watch the dressings carefully to make sure that there's no milk in them. I've discovered (the hard way) that many Ranch and Blue Cheese dressings are made with milk or buttermilk. Guest guest
I've only thrown up twice since surgery on " stuck " foods, and one of those times was on raw carrots. I'd eaten them before, and have eaten them--as well as all other raw vegetables--many times since, but for some reason that particular time they just got all matted together. I'd give them another try.
