Guest guest
Hey everyone, first I just want to say you guys are so supportive of everyone, It is so nice to know people can be so kind, seriously, thank you for all your help so far. My question is about bringing down the upper jaw, is it always necessary to use a graph there? I don't really understand everything about how this works, but one of the things I want to improve is my nose, I was hoping moving the upper jaw downward would make my nose less scrunched up looking (because the nasal spine is attached to the maxilla), but if they add a graph, wouldn't it defeat the purpose? My upper jaw(and lower) is also horizontally sideways(cant). Also, since I do have assymetry, it also affects my cheekbone, could they bring one forward just a tad? Thank you in advance! Guest guest
May I suggest that you talk with your surgeon about these things? I hope you have, or that you will. The surgeon will know far better than we can possibly what will be appropriate for you. I wouldn't venture a guess about whether they'll need to do a graft on you, but your docs should be able to offer you a plan, with some explanations, about at least what they expect to see. Sometimes things change, once the docs are in there and working, but at least they could tell you what they expect to be able to do, or need to do, and why, and whether anything involving your cheekbones is possible or needed. (Sometimes you get big changes that you haven't foreseen, but they may be familiar with.) As for the nasal spine and the maxilla, the surgery I saw on the teevee involved separating the upper jaw completely from the nose and sinuses, I think. As with a hammer and chisel -- sorry! But again, ask your docs; that may not be what they're planning to do for you.
