Hi all, Since I am a new member, my questions

might have already been answered, if so, sorry for the repeats..

Are lentils, safe to be eaten at the “beginning”

of the diet? (prepared according to the instructions in BTVC)

Nutrition data given below does

not indiate the starch in lentils.. I guess it is tough to estimate..

Hi Ozgur,

Welcome! Here is what Elaine said about lentils:

Double sugar molecules

(disaccharides: lactose, sucrose, maltose and isomaltose) and starches

(polysaccharides) are primarily avoided on the diet. Some starches have been

shown to be tolerated, particularly those in the legume family (dried beans,

lentils and split peas only). However, they must be soaked for 10-12 hours

prior to cooking, and the water discarded since it will contain other sugars

which are indigestible, but which are removed in the soaking process. Small

amounts of legumes may only be added to the diet after about three months.

I made the mistake of tackling navy pea beans at about 2 months on the

diet.

BIG mistake!

Interestingly, by the following summer (around 8 months), I was OK with

them, so long as I ate them about once a month.

Lentils and I get along better -- and lentils have the advantage of being

a legume my husband will eat!

Green peas? Not on your life! Neither Harry nor I like those -- and yet,

baby new peas are supposed to be fairly easy to digest. Some people

even claim they're tasty. <grin>

they smelled so nauseating to me I could hardly believe it!) On the other

hand I never had a bit of trouble with carrots in any form, as Marilyn

did.

lentils, as a legume, can be an advanced food, something you don't want to tackle until some healing has taken

place.

That said, cauliflower and broccoli are generally advanced vegetables, and I was able to add those in fairly quickly. Other people have to wait a number of months before adding something like that in. Marilyn

You need to try the mint pea recipe from the Eat Well, Feel Well cookbook. I don't really care for peas, never have, but that recipe has all of us (the boys included) licking our plates clean! ; )AmeliaTo: BTVC-SCD Sent: Tue, February 16, 2010 9:15:43 PMSubject: Re: Re: How safe to eat lentils?

Well, I'll admit -- I haven't tried either of them with Brie Sauce yet,

but they seem like an awful waste of good brie sauce.
