Guest guest
You don't really want to remove it the night before because even those hours un-casted could cause him to lose correction. However there is an alternative to the cast saw. You can soak them at home before your appt. then they come off easily at the clinic using scissors/knife. It's been a couple years but if I remember right we'd soak Everett in a tub of warm water with vinegar added. I don't remember exactly how much vinegar but it helps disolve the plaster. I'd set him up in a baby-tub, and put that baby-tub in the regular tub with him propped up with towels so he coudln't slump over and get his face in the water. I'd fill it all up as deep as I safely could and I'd put towels over his legs and keep them soaked while he soaked...then after half an hour or so ?? I'd take him out, wrap a fairly soggy towels around each cast, then wrap that with plastic bags, diaper him up and dress him and head out the door, wearing the wet towels/bags until the nurse was ready to take them off. Really not as much hassel as it sounds once you figure out your own routine. This is how Dr. Poseti's clinic told me to do it. Take a set of dry cloths for your baby to put on once he has the new casts on cuz the outfit he's wearing will end up kind of wet from sitting around this way waiting for the casts to be cut off. s. Soaking Casts Hi all, I'm just curious...did/do most of you soak the casts off before the doctor's appointment or was the cast cut off at the doctor's office? My little guy had a hard time dealing with the cast saw (probably the noise) and the nurse scared me into thinking that he may even get a saw " burn " (which he didn't get). However, I'm also worried (being a first-timer) that if I remove the cast the night before, he may lose some correction.
