Guest guest
Has anyone had upper/lower/genio only for cosmetic reasons? Somehow I have a good bite but a screwed up profile. I really want to look normal from the side. I know genio is mainly cosmetic, but has anyone hated their profile as much as I hate mine and been able to fix it with upper/lower jaw surgery?? Thanks. Guest guest
I did only genio, but that was not the original plan. I had bad malocclusion with overbite and crossbite. So I was going to do lower initially for functional reasons. But the ortho messed up, and my surgeon couldnt move my jaw at a place he wanted. So he only offered me genio option, for purely fixing the profile, and then he worked with the ortho to get me a reasonable bite only with appliances. Basically if you have a good bite, I would receommend (I am not a doctor, just my suggestion) only genio to fix your profile. Or course no insurance will cover, so you have to come up withe the expenses. No hospital is needed and is outpatinet. It costs 3000-6000 usually depending on the part of the country you are. I read in various medical journals that actually there is a new thinking of insurances to start covering genio in cases where they could save them a lower surgery. Think about it, from insurance point of view they can pay 1/5 the price of lower and hosptial fees. So in cases where the insurance agrees that lower is needed but if ortho could be done as a reasonable alternaitve and genio added for structural issues, then some insurances might take it. > > Has anyone had upper/lower/genio only for cosmetic reasons? Guest guest
I think you are on my wavelength. I absolutely abhored my profile ever since we did one of those dreadful (to me it was) sihouette drawing exercises in the third grade. I absolutely looked horrible and always avoided allowing people to look at me from the side. My bite actually was bad too, so I had pallate expansion surgery, lower jaw moved forward and a genioplasty, but nonetheless my main concern was improving my looks. Unfortunately that surgery, though it fixed the bite and made some improvement, I was still very short on the profile... I was soooooo recessive to start with. Anyway, that problem got fixed right two months ago with a very large, box cut genioplasty that advanced me another 15mm. If you want to know more and perhaps share your woes of having a dreadful profile, please email me. > > Has anyone had upper/lower/genio only for cosmetic reasons?
