To the mother who's child is now wanting to walk in walker instead of lying around, you said you hope he would someday talk. That would be me. And smile at them like your really enjoying this conversation. I'd put Barouk music on. Are you familiar with the concept of the " cross crawloff, but the children I work with progress very quickly. Our son was born blind, deaf and floppy. We went to the Institutes of Human Potential in PA and learned from the originator of CRoss Crawl how to pattern how son. We flashed lights in his eyes and blew air horns. We have done lots and lots of cranial sacral therpy. If you do massage I encourage you to learn CST. MY son can hear and see and can almost walk now. I would like to do auditory integration therapy. I haven't had the support I need on that route. We taught him the only word he can say which is MAMA by sticking his hand in my mouth and letting him feel my mouth and tongue move while I talked. He loves me to repeat back his intonations and sounds. Dr. Attwood author of " Aspberger's syndrome " spoke at an Autism Symposium a while back in MO and said that singing is the first way that a baby communications so he recommends that mothers sing to their children and that children with Autism receive music therapy. We have copied his sounds and played with him trying to teach him verbal communication. THe best luck we have had is using Dr. Carbonnes method of ABA and Verbal communication. He is awesome. If you haven't gone to that then I highly reccommend it. I think he is at the www.jericoschool.com address if I am not mistaken. I still felt like there was a missing key in my son's progress that would unlock the door to his brain. So I began studying the DAN approach. We are seeing a lot of progress on this diet. I hope it is the key. I do not believe that my son is severly retarded as the school is about to claim today at our IEP. They want to send him to the state school. I am only going along with it because I am tired of the fight. And we can get better funding this way to continue the ABA program he does. At least I have the support of the state right now via Project Access our state's Autism Arm. I believe my son is stuck somewhere in there. I will find him! BTW This list is wonderful I appreciate the support of the group and the patience you have for us newcommers. Thank you for taking time to help. __________________________________________________
