HELP!! My Hair!

A few days ago I noticed a larger than normal amount of hair come out

when shampooing. Then each day since, it seems like I've been

shedding. I've been picking loose hairs off my clothes, my face, etc.

Now today in the shower, there was a FISTFUL of hair that came out

when I shampooed!!

I remember at my first GBS support group meeting, a woman said it was

at 3 months that her hair started to fall out. She even went so far as

to have some bald spots from it!

I am exactly 3 months post-op today. I have pretty thin hair to start

with. I can't afford to lose a lot of hair.

Can anyone offer any advice to stop this hair loss, or to slow it

down, at least?

Has anyone ever tried using Minoxidyl during this phase?

I couldn't find that Bioxin anywhere around her, so I ordered it

online. It should arrive by tomorrow. Think it will help at all?

Hang in there , your doing a fantastic job. I too hate these little

plateaus we seem to have. I lose 15 or so and then stop, it is frustrating. I

too try to think of only the positives. The clothes sizes going down. The

distance I can walk without feeling like I'm taking my last breath. The

exercising I'm doing when I didn't do any before. Those little milestones we

pass

over, each of these are very important and we must keep focused on them and not

the darn scale....lol.

Keep up the good work and congratulations on your losses so far.

Yep, 3 months post-op tomorrow and shedding like crazy :). There is

biotin in a lot of vitamins, even Flintstones has 40mcg's, which is

roughly 13% of recommended. I take Natrol Skin, Hair, and Nails

vitamins, which has 500mcg's of biotin and seems to be helping. I also

have my hair salon do deep conditioning treatments every 2 weeks (6x

treatment) and use a tonic spray in between (all designed for thinning

hair, plus it feels great!). I have always lost a lot of hair, but am

certainly losing more now.

On top of which (sorry guys, need to vent for a sec). I've stalled :(.

I know we all try to be so positive, but it's so darn frustrating when

I fell I'm doing everything right, exercising like crazy and have been

holding at -62 pounds now for 2 weeks :(. I know, I know, we just

talked about this yesterday and I, like many others said to hang in

there, with the exercise and everything it can be any number of things,

not to mention my body may need time to catch up. I've printed out the

Pouch Rules for Dummies and will try being better about snacking and

not drinking with meals (my 2 " issues " I guess you could call them).

Love you all so much for listening to me gripe :). I'm definitely proud

of the 62 pounds and 32-1/2 " though, just would like to see the scale

start to move like it was :).

Had been told that as well, but with my average protein consumed I can

now safely guarantee that lack of protein is not the only cause of the

hair loss.

I am 15 months out from surgery and down 115 lbs (only 10 more lbs. til I hit

my goal!)--anyway, I found my hair loss started around month 4 (even though I've

always been great about getting in the recommended amount of protein) and

continued until around nine months. My hair fell out alot an was pretty thin by

the time the hair loss finally stopped.

From the time I was able to swallow meds, I started taking a hair, skin and nail

supplement (along with mega vitamins) from GNC. The supplement is called Hair,

Skin and Nails. I'm not sure if it helped slow the falling out, but I believe

it helped new growth come back stronger and faster.

My hair is back to normal now. I found regular trimming and conditioning

helped. I've done two major cuts of several inches that have helped, too. I

switched to a shampoo and conditioner for fine hair, while I was losing it, that

helped not to weigh down what I had left.

The hair loss was scary, but don't worry it will stop. Just hang in there!

Go to the main Yahoo page of the support group and click on 'Files' in

the menu on the left-hand side of the screen. It's in there with a lot

of other helpful documents.

I would say as soon as your doctor has given you the okay to exercise

(which would be after the time when your incision has healed).
