My #3 PDD son licks when he eats a " bad food " . For him, it is

regression to the oral/baby stage. He will lick things and put

objects and his hands into his mouth. Once the bad food is removed,

he stops licking things.

I have not updated my hand-licking opinion to include this

information, but here it is for you, in case you do not believe your

child's licking is a regression thing.

That was my thought as well, that the child may be seeking salt - not

necessarily a bad thing. Maybe a bit of salt on food could be in order. Or

maybe not, but just a suggestion.
