Guest guest
>>I gather casein leaves the body quite quickly, but how long does it take to eliminate the gluten after such an infringement? I've heard everything from a week to 3 months, and it is really bugging me to think that the work of the past 6 months could have been undone in a few minutes. Anyone know? Casein generally leaves within 3-4 days. My son has been gfcf for almost two years now. If he has a gluten infraction, it generally takes 2-3 weeks for the effects to be gone. If he has the infraction with enzymes, then the reaction is much milder and it takes about a week for it to be gone. > > My second question: I read recently that plain oats have been okayed for celiacs - what is the group's opinion on this? Some celiacs tolerate oats, others do not. It is a different type of gluten but very similar to wheat/other glutens. Most AS children also do not tolerate oats, but I do know of some who do [but not many]. Your best option, in my opinion, is to remove them for at least a month or more, then if you want, you can try adding them back in to see if they do affect your child. Or you can have your child tested to see if he does have an oat intolerance, here is one lab which lists testing. http://www.greatplainslaboratory.com/ Here is more information on oats as it relates to celiac. http://www.celiac.com/oats.html Dana
