Please check out this announcement of an upcoming two-part training program for Spanish-speaking facilitators for delivery of the community-level HIV prevention intervention, Community PROMISE, in Spanish (PROMESA).

The attached flyers in English and Spanish provide additional details on the the training curricula.

Registrants acknowledge that a certificate of completion is dependent on full participation of all three days.

Who Should Attend?

Agencies funded to provide Community PROMISE (PROMESA). We strongly recommend that the selection of staff to attend this PROMESA Training of Facilitators (TOF) follow these guidelines:

§ Spanish-speaking staff who will work to implement or oversee the implementation of PROMISE (PROMESA) in Spanish.

Training Overview

Goal Of This Course:

Both of these two, three-day courses prepare facilitators from community based agencies, AIDS service agencies, and health departments to implement Community PROMISE (PROMESA) successfully in their community with Spanish-speaking populations. The entire course will be facilitated in Spanish only.

Training Objectives:

By the end of this two-part training, participants will be able to:

§ Explain how behavioral change theories are used in PROMESA;

§ List the four core elements of PROMESA;

§ Describe the process and steps of CID;

§ Describe the role of community mobilization in PROMESA;

§ Conduct CID systems interviews;

§ Conduct community observations and mapping;

§ Describe the 8 key components of a Role Model Story;

§ Explain how to identify appropriate role models to be interviewed for Role Model Stories;

§ Describe how Role Model Stories are used in PROMESA;

§ Describe how Role Model Stories are distributed by Peer Advocates;

§ Conduct a Role Model Stories interview;

§ Write a Role Model Story; and

§ Develop a plan for recruiting Peer Advocates.

The Prevention Training Centers (PTCs) of Rochester and Dallas will be collaborating to pilot the Community PROMISE (PROMESA) training in Spanish. This is a two-part training, with each part spanning a three day period. The training dates are as scheduled:

Part I, July 13-15, 2009 (Monday - Wednesday)

Part II, September 21-23, 2009 (Monday - Wednesday)

Both parts will take place in Dallas, Texas, and both will be facilitated entirely in the Spanish language. The registration deadline is June 29. For registration information please contact Janet Peeler with the Dallas PTC at 214-645-7353.

Attached please find the PROMESA training marketing flyers- one in English and one in Spanish. - my co-trainer- and I would greatly appreciate your assistance in marketing our pilot. We also welcome your participation in the training.
