Guest guest
Hi Amber, We are really feelin for you! Tell me, have you soaked his cast off yet? As others here have said, all indications are that these casts have been applied incorrectly and are not giving your son proper correction and may actually be doing him harm so why not just take em off is my question especially if he is so uncomfortable in them, screaming is NOT a good sign, I just feel so bad for you guys!! Ponseti casts are NOT uncomfy for baby and it is WAY better to let his feet relapse a bit anyway so that Dr. Dobbs will be starting with a clean slate =). Really, take em off is my advise! Will make him and you much more comfy until he can get in for proper Ponseti casting. Our daughters foot was corrected with 4 casts with our Ponseti doctor, you will be amazed/shocked at the results with Dr. Dobbs. Until then again I say take the casts off! & Grace 19mos unilateral right clubfoot FAB 13hrs > > just wanted to let yall know i didnt get a chance to call Dr Dobbs nuse > or the shrinir's but did email DR Dobbs. Guest guest
Awww Amber, glad that you were able to get a little sleep! Whatever you do tomorrow, DO NOT let them recast your son!! I have a feeling that your current doc is going to spout a lot of stuff (crap IMO) about your son having stubborn or severe feet. Rest ASSURED that Dr. Dobbs or another good Ponseti dr for that matter WILL FIX his feet in a matter of weeks!!!!!!!! I can't stress this enough Amber, don't let them touch his feet again!!! I will give you a quick short story to give you some motivation...a good recent friend of mine came online to find out if the suffering that her son was going through - multiple casts (like 18 counting slippage) was 'normal' and if all the pain he was going through - (like skin bruising and breaking down and peeling off was normal) and that he screamed and had to be held down for casting (I put a frowny face here cuz this caused and still causes me to get emotional) and we said NO it is NOT normal for a baby to go through at all at all. His feet showed marginal improvment and she was told that his feet were extremely severe and thus all the casts (which were applied while he screamed the whole time btw). Well after joining this group and getting her son to a Ponseti doctor in our city, her son has PERFECT feet now - this was achieved with only a few casts! Dr. Pirani, who treated my daughter and eventually treated her son is Ponseti certified thus has our babies WHOLE well being in mind. We also had a horrid first casting experience and came to him for her second cast with me preparing for 'the worst' sobbing and crying - both of us Grace and me, I will never forget him putting his hand on my arm and telling me that it was going to be just fine, that he would be able to fix Grace's foot and then went into the logistics of how he was going to do just that, sooooo different from our first experience! I will NEVER forget his kindness and his gentle way. I have since found out through others and some innocent sleuthing (hehe) that he really does try to immulate Dr. Ponseti and has spoken with him numerous times about how he (Dr. Ponseti) keeps his babies so happy He let me nurse her first (he always wanted her calm and let me nurse if needed) and then did her cast and guess what...she NEVER cried for him =) Well this post turned out to be sooooo long winded but Amber, I just really want you to know that there is a better way and a better treatment available for your son and Dr. Dobbs will be able to provide him this! I can't wait for you to see the results after his first casts!!! You will be amazed, I promise! Hugs, And let us know how the appt goes ok! & Grace > > > > > > just wanted to let yall know i didnt get a chance to call Dr > Dobbs > > nuse > > > or the shrinir's but did email DR Dobbs. Guest guest
Dear Amber, I'm the mommy of an Italian baby with clubfoot (Giuseppe). I can underdstand what you feel. I had an horrible experience with cast made by an Italian doctor. Everytime he made the casts they: 1) slipped off, 2)it was impossible to see Giuseppe's toes because they disappeared in the casts; in this way he had many problems with his toenails 3) after 11 casts and the thenotomy Giuseppe's feet were very bad and certainly they were no correct. We were destroyed and we decided to go from Italy to Iowa City to meet Dr. Ponseti. He made only 3 casts and Giuseppe's feet were perfect. I want to say you that there are many ways to do the casts and your baby can get different results and improvements from different doctors. If the doctor is a good doctor (who use correctly Ponseti's method) your baby's feet will be fine, they can grow into the casts (few casts). Giuseppe's feet were very severe and atypical but, after Ponseti's treatment, they are perfect. Now he is in the 's brace. Please go to a good Ponseti's doctor and your baby will be very well. Excuse me for my English. Good luck.
