Guest guest
Hmmm.....OK, someone who knows more about all this help me out here??? Are you using the Ponseti Method at all or the French Method? I'm not sure what you are dealing with and I hate to go out on a limb telling you stuff when I'm not sure what I'm talking about. I do know reducing too fast can be bad though. s. After Boots & Bar... > > > Hi, I was wondering if anyone can tell me if my daughter can wear > normal shoes after we get the Boots & bar off. Guest guest
Congratulations on making it through the 23/7 period! Doesn't it feel great? :) However, I'm a bit worried about your Dr. suggesting that you go from 23/7 to 12 hours a day. Dr. Ponseti has learned over the years that it is better to go slowly down from the 23 to the 12 - 14. For instance do 23 to just 20 hours for a month or two and then 18 and then perhaps 16 before hitting 12 - 14 a day. The Nights and Naps concept is based on a typical toddler's sleep schedule. In other words if your child is sleeping, the FAB should be on their feet. Make sense? Anyway, I encourage you to contact Dr. Ponseti to see what his recommendations are regarding decreasing hours more slowly in order to prevent relapsing. And to answer your question - sure! Normal shoes are fine when she's not in the bar. Chris After Boots & Bar... Hi, I was wondering if anyone can tell me if my daughter can wear normal shoes after we get the Boots & bar off. Vivian still wears them 23h/day but starting next week she'll only have to wear them 12h/day?? Can I put normal shoes on her??When she starts walking does she have to wear special orthodepic shoes?? Guest guest
just regular, flexible-soled shoes, what you get for any early walker. I think barefoot time is important, too .. so she can grip with her feet and toes, work on balance, build muscle control, etc., and, of course, let those tootsies breathe! Guest guest
Any shoes that are comfortable for her will be fine. We like the flexible soled shoes best since they are most like being barefoot (which isn't an option in Minnesota right now! Brrrr...) A word of caution about reducing hours. When coming out of the shoes for 23 hours a day, you shouldn't go right down to 12 hours a day out of the shoes. My son is turning one next week, and he's still in the shoes 12 - 14 hours a day. He's almost walking, and my understanding is that until they are walking, they should be in the shoes longer. We gradually worked our way down to this point, reducing an hour or two every month. Rather than going right down to 12, consider going to 20 for a month or two, then down to 18, then 16, then 14. Others have ideas on how to reduce as well, but the basic message is don't rush it. That can cause a relapse. Good luck! > > Hi, I was wondering if anyone can tell me if my daughter can wear > normal shoes after we get the Boots & bar off. Guest guest
You should really try to have her spend more hours in the brace. Somewhere closer to 16 would be much better than 12. She will go down to 12 soon enough, when she is walking, why take a chance after all the casting to get her to where she is now???! & Grace 16 mos unilateral right clubfoot FAB 13 hrs > > > > to answer your first question, no specaial shoes should be > necessary after the FAB but that brings up something else ...... the > protocol on the FAB is that you gradually reduce from 23 hours down > to 18, then 16, then 14 and way down the road you eventually reach a > minimum of 12 hours - this over a long period of months.
