Don't know if this is the list I have spoken about my husband's surgery on but he had an esphogectemy (sp) 13 years ago. The surgery saved his life and ridded him of cancer but left him with assorted and sundry stomach problems due to the nerves of his pyloric valve being cut during the procedure and the fact that his stomach was basically pulled up into his chest. About meat tenderizer . . . it was his surgeon who suggested a tsp 3 times a day when he started having severe digestion problems. It seems the papaya enzymes that break down and tenderize the meat work well on breaking down the strings and strands of food (ie; celery, grapefruit rind) that don't digest well. Not the most delightful thing to do but after about 3 or 4 days, this natural draino does the trick (Of course eating better would alleviate the need for this measure) Debbie Pre-Op (as soon as I get rid of this cast on my leg) Dr. Ren NYU
