Guest guest
Hi Pomy, What symptoms did you have?? I do not have sarc in my eyes (at least not yet), but I know several on the list have mentioned it. I am sure one or more will respond to you. I am going to call my eye specialist and get an appointment as I am having sharp pains in both of my eyes and that worries me. Are you having that?? Keep us posted. Hugs, Darlene NS Co-Owner/Moderator eye Hi,Can someone write me how sarc started in their eyes, what the symptoms were etc? Guest guest
Pomy, Mine started with blurry, almost like a cloud formation in my eye. I had spots and there ws a dull achy pain around my orbit. This was treated with drops for quite some time. I was away at a quilt retreat though, and all of a sudden, I had incredible pain in my eye. It wouldnt go away. I had to patch my eye and drive home, luckily I wasnt too far away. Scared me, but went away after a few hours of drops and motrin. What's going on with yours?? If you're having a problem and your'e not sure what's wrong, get to an ophthamologist right away. Vision is too important to wait. Let me know how you are. Guest guest
Hi all. I didn't start with the eye thingy but after seeing an eye doctor and getting new glasses I found I couldn't see out of my right eye. I called the eye doctor back and he said my God you were just in here.. I went to my neruo and he said it was a flair up. Gave me massive doses of prednisone along with something else. can't remember right now. After 3 days it cleared up and my vision was better than ever. That is my bout with the eyes. I do have a small cataract forming keeping watch on it. Jackie eye Hi,Can someone write me how sarc started in their eyes, what the symptoms were etc? Guest guest
Barb, How in the world did the eye docs "give" you glaucoma? Glaucoma is a condition of increased intra-ocular pressure caused by inflammation of the iris and the eye structure not being able to work correctly to lower the pressure. You can't be "given" glaucoma. Medications can induce glaucoma, and medications can increase the risk for cataracts. Both however, are generally caused by aging (cataracts will come on regardless in more than 90% of the world population) and glaucoma is a hereditary disease, but can also be caused by trauma to the eye. We'd see kids that were playing with bb guns (yep, it's a problem) or burns or herpes of the eyes and eyelids that can cause glaucoma-- and some meds increase the risk--- so how did the docs explain that what they used to treat the grease burn in your eye caused you to end up with glaucoma? It's a new one for me-- so please educate me. Guest guest
Hi, I have been gone for a few days but just caught this. I too was told that I had glaucoma due to increased IOP? This was five years ago when I first started having strange symptoms. Since then, I have lost a lot of my visionand have significant amount of bloody eye hemorrhages. Not to mention permanent double vision and horribleeye pain. Please enlighten me. I was told I had eye involvement because of yellow deposits and drye red eyes.Confused??????? Guest guest
, When our eyes are involved with sarcoidosis, many times we end up with glaucoma. Glaucoma can cause severe eye pain, along with severe light sensitivity. You also lose your peripheral vision with glaucoma, and it ends up feeling like you are looking through a straw-- with central vision only. The dry eye problem is often from the inflammation of the conjunctiva-- the white of the eye that actually starts at the outside of the iris, and goes up under the eyelids (both top and bottom). When this becomes inflamed, you can't produce tears the way you should. You'll find that your eyes water like crazy-- so it's hard for us to get it through our heads that our eyes are "dry." What will help is the use of artificial tears and Restasis drops. Restasis is by prescription-- but it actually helps bring the inflammation down, so that your eyes can make more of the proper Ph balanced tears. You can use (and should use) artificial tears as often as needed. So if those eyes are feeling the least bit "scratchy" or dry or iritated-- use the tears. You'll find that you will be seeing much more clearly. The iris of the eyes acts as a "pump" for the intra-ocular pressure by expanding and contracting to accomodate the lighting. The iris is attached to "trabecular meshwork"-- a spiderweb like ligaments that also help the iris to contract. If any of this network, the iris, the trabecular meshwork; is inflammed or has developed "senecia" - adhesions of the iris to the pupil of the eye-- then the chance of glaucoma goes way up. If you have pain, flu-like symptoms, photophobia (light sensitivity) get into the MD-- OPHTHALMOLOGIST! These are signals that the pressure if very high! If you are not seeing a MD-- OPHTHALMOLOGIST-- do so. A few years back, the government decided that Optometrists (O.D.) can diagnose and treat glaucoma. However, they are not anywhere as schooled as the MD on this-- and you need the comprehensive care of an MD that can see very subtle changes in the macula and retina and iris-- that OD's may blow off if the pressure is borderline high. This can mean loss of vision-- forever. I'll see if I can scan the pictures of my eyes-- you can actually see the "senecia"-- as I have adhesions on my left iris that no longer respond to eye drops. (They have you keep your eyes dilated as well as use pred forte drops to bring the inflammation down-- and you may still need another drop for high pressure and dry eyes.) This is serious serious stuff-- and our vision is one of the things I know I don't want to lose. If the MD blows it off as "just" sarcoidosis-- get to another MD. We can get optic nerve involvement, and more-- so you need someone that understands the need for treatment and close follow up care. Hope this helps Tracie NS Co-owner/moderator To: Neurosarcoidosis Sent: Tuesday, August 18, 2009 6:19:27 PMSubject: Re: eye Hi, I have been gone for a few days but just caught this. Guest guest
Interesting-- I know some meds can raise pressure, but it was probably more the trauma from the burn that actually caused the glaucoma. I do hope they took away whatever drop was increasing the pressure-- and that you now have it under control. Hemidystonia is a condition where you lose the movement of one side of the body (sometime just an arm, sometimes a side of the face, or sometimes a whole entire side of the body stops functioning.) It is most prevalent when you've had stroke-- and it is possible with sarc to have TIA's-- Transient Ischemic Attacks (mini strokes that come and go-- no signs show up on scans, etc) but you know that you've had something happen. If you have signs of a stroke-- get into ER--that 1st hour is critical- and if TPA is administered, alot of the damage of a stroke can be stopped! Take care, Tracie NS C0-owner/moderator To: Neurosarcoidosis Sent: Tuesday, August 18, 2009 5:34:00 PMSubject: Re: eye tracie, i was on four different eye drops 4x's daily and because of that , they raised the pressure in my eye soooo high that it was induced glaucoma! how are you feeling? miss ya on here! i was just diagnosed with hemidystonia along with neurosarcoidosis! do you know anything about this?
