We went to see Dr. Lamm yesterday. What a difference from how we were

being treated here in CT. Dr. H is still out of the country. Dr. Lamm

said that Logan's foot looks good and does not need more casting. That

part our CT dr got right. ee, you were right about my dr being

wrong to suggest that we work him back to 70. Dr. Lamm felt that we

also needed a 10 inch bar-right now we have an 8 inch. The blisters

have just a little healing left to do, however he thought we could put

him back in the shoes, just a few hours at a time and check the

blisters. So today, after spending 15 hours in the car yesterday and

getting home at 2:00am, we started with the shoe business again. Logan

fights those shoes with such strength. He also slipped out of them

twice. So we decided to leave him out until he goes to bed because I'm

worried he will aggravate his already soar heels. We have decided to

switch our treatment to land. It appears that we would be a patient

of Dr. Lamm and not Dr. Hertzenberg, although I believe they work

closely together. Does anyone's child specifically have Dr. Lamm as

their dr? And finally, under what circumstances would someone order the

Shoes? Do children have a harder time slipping out? Also does

the plastic part sticking up from the heel bother the children?

Thanks, and Logan (3mo left cf)

Re: Re: blisters

His 1st (non Ponseti) tenotomy left bad scars, three in a row up each

heel - then the FAB came along and sort of chews those lump/scars off

his heels and did their own work, so ya, he has scars on his heels but

over time they have lessened quite a bit. No other shoes have ever torn

him back open, so it's not a factor anymore.

Re: blisters

ee,

I was wanting to ask you about the sores that had - I understand

they were really bad, did they leave scars? I am still worried about

Sammy's heels, his sores, especially on his Non-CF foot were really

bad and you can still see the scars from those sores. He's still only

13 months so I keep hoping that they will fade but I do worry about

it. I kick myself daily for not being smart enough to keep that from

happening, and I worry about that scar tissue.

Thanks,

We have been to Dr. Lamm and Dr.Herzenberg. We primarily see Dr.H, but both

are super great. Also, if you still want to get Dr. H's opinion, it won't upset

Dr. Lamm in any way. They are both great and I think you are in great hands

with either one. Especially since they work so closely together.

If you do decide to switch to the s, you can call

directly and he can send you an impression kit for Logans feet. Also, I think

someone said Dr. H has impression kits in his office. The s will not

slip off the feet. In fact, I don't know of any baby who has been able to get

them off on their own yet. Plus, they are very comfortable so the baby doesn't

want to try to get them off as much.

HTH,

Good luck. I hope Logans blisters heal real soon.

Thanks. We really liked Dr. Lamm. We see him again this wed. He said

we would also be able to meet Dr H then as well. Dr. Lamm did say that

they have the kits there and talk to directly. Does your

child have the mitchells? The white part on the back of the sandel

looks uncomfortable to me, but I've read other posts stating that the

kids love them. Dr. L had told us that they were primarily for children

with complex feet- Logan's foot was mild. Logan's soars are getting

better, now if I could just get the ***** shoes on right and get them to

stay on we would be all set. And of course there is the matter of

getting him to tolerate the FAB all over again because he has been out

for so long.

Everett has been in his new (3rd) pair of s for several days now and

hasn't had any problems I'm happy to report. I did have to trim some excess

tongue flap off, and add some holes to make the straps tighter as they stretch

out but I had those same issues with his previous 2 pair as well. These are

comfortable shoes, just have a sock tall enough to reach up his leg above the

white/yellow/clear part that goes up the back of the heel.

Aside from trimming the tongue, one thing I also do to make these shoes easier

to buckle is dip the tip of each strap in a clear varnish to harden the tip

(about 3/4 inch) - this allows you to push the tip through the buckle easier and

grasp it while you hold the shoe in place. This takes a few hours to dry so

give yourself time when you do it.

My daughter, , uses the s. We started with the Markells as well,

but they didn't stay on her feet. Part of it was due to the fact that her feet

weren't fully corrected from her first doctor. We love them! The white/clear

part is not uncomfortable at all. They are more comfortable than the Markells.

Also he won't be able to slip his feet out of the s. I think originally

they were made for more complex clubfoot, like atypical, but more and more

babies are using them because they work so well and there are fewer problems.

I think we are going to ask for them when we see Dr. Lamm this week.

Logan kicked out twice in a three hour period last night. He still has

the soars so I know it aggravates the soars when he is slipping out. He

hates the whole FAB thing and screams while swinging his arms and

kicking his feet. For a 3 mo old he packs a good punch. We keep

thinking that if the s are more comfortable, maybe he will

tolerate things better. Part of the problem at this point is his bar is

too short. We have had a hard time finding one up here so we are

waiting until Tues when we get to MD.

Hi guys~ Just looking at this post because we are switching to the

s, so I am always looking for pointers. They will be sent to us

sometime next week. CAN NOT WAIT! Anyway, to answer a comment below, yes,

Dr. Herzenberg just got some of the impression kits sent to his office. Dr.

H did Maddie's feet impressions 2 weeks ago and we sent them off to

via Fed Ex.

Hi Krishna,

We don't have the shoes, but I came across a tips document on the

Steps UK site yesterday.

http://www.steps-charity.org.uk/document_library.php

It's the second to last from the bottom, a pdf file.

This site has quite a few interesting documents. I was having a look

because we are affiliated with them and will have some links from our new

Steps South Africa web site.

Hope this helps

Hi guys~ Just looking at this post because we are switching to the

Dr. Herzenberg just got some of the impression kits sent to his office. Dr.

H did Maddie's feet impressions 2 weeks ago and we sent them off to

via Fed Ex.

Krishna-

I was sent some tips from Shook whose daughter has been using the

s. Here is what she had to say:

*The major difference is the time it takes to get them on. It is crucial to

have the middle tongue in the correct place when you buckle them up. You

should buckle the middle strap first. It will take some getting used to to

get them just right. usually sends the shoes already attached to the

bar for first time users, and correct buckling directions. If that is the

case, there shouldn't be any problem using them right away.*

Although I have not looked yet, I also heard that there is a tips

doc in the files section of the yahoo group page. Keep in touch, let me know

when you get your shoes. I hope that Maddie does well in them.
