I just have the screws, and only three of those on each side. They've never given me any trouble at all, and I'm not thinking of removing them unless they do. (I really don't like surgery -- not that you do, probably, either.) At least with my three little screws, my doc said it would be simple to get them out, if I wanted or needed to do so. Maybe (but I don't know) it's more complex when you have more screws and/or plates. Heaven knows, I'm no expert on the job market, and it sounds as though you are, but it also sounds to me as though you need to be working in a different place, and for some better bosses.
