Guest guest
One of my MAJOR concerns with surgery was how long would I be in surgery..everyone focuses on one issue or another, that was mine. I was in stable health, no co-morbidities, but at 341 lbs did I want to test the odds??? NO. Dr. Herron told me I would be in surgery 5 hours. People on line said more like 3-3.5, the fastest one, Gagner patient 2.5 hrs...I chose Gagner because he was confident in the BPD/DS, I was confident in the things people had to say about him, and he agreed to see me, after I had consulted with Dr. Herron, and felt Dr. Herron preferred the RnY (my impression, my opinion only). SO, I went with Dr. Gagner. As it turns out I was in surgery for 2 hrs 15 mins, 15 mins needed to rectify adhesions from an old appendectomy, the BPD/DS was performed in 2 hours. I had no problems, have healing scars, very small scars, and have been blessed with a speedy recovery, painless recovery. I did " spring a leak " about day 3 at home, denatured fat came squirting out..YUCK...but Ivonne , YES, Ivonne tracked down Dr. Quinn to call me because Dr. Gagner was in Japan. Then Ivonne called me at home about 7pm or later to make sure the doctor had talked to me and that I was ok. I totally agree that the staff does not match the reputation of the surgeon, I find that incongruence annoying, but....all has gone well for me and I feel very fortunate to have had Dr. Dr. Gagner (and his fellows) perform the surgery. [i made it through the hospital because of a few good nurses, and aids, a private nurse I was fortunate to be able to hire for this surgery and my parents and sister attending to me, I felt very secure. I would reccomend an overnight companion, and if at all possible to have a friend or relative there through the day, takes away the fear, helps one feel better] LennyB __________________________________________________
