Dora,

Husband, the Canadian says to tell you that the medical system is

totally different down here. He says there is an insurance you

purchase when you are out of the country...travel insurance. He says

you cannot get it if you have had surgery or been hospitalized within

the last six months. He says that you may be able to purchase it

through something like the BCAA.

Now, if you have insurance down here through your school, its a whole

different ballgame. Every single insurance down here has its own

policies and exclusions etc. If you have this kind of insurance, you

need to call them and ask for a copy of your policy and that will let

you know what you are up against.

One of the founding fathers of the DS is Canadian and I understand

the waiting period is at least 3 years. My sister in law had the

roux en y in BC and only had to wait 6 months...but this was ages ago

and she had serious co morbidities.

If you don't have travelers insurance for out of country, you might

have your folks check into it up there....and see what time period it

covers, if there are " preexisting condition " exclusions, and if it is

intended for emergencies only.

Good luck to you,

Theresa

to ask which surgery he was talking about that none of his patience

lost weight on. I think my intial reaction was such shock and

disappointment when he said that, that I just kind of went blank. I

will ask him next time. I was curious, because I'm from Canada,

would I go about getting a referral to an American WL surgeon the

same way that I would getting a referral to a Canadain WL surgeon.?

If not, how do I go about doing that? I'm hopefully going to be put

on a list but I really can't wait for 3 years or however long it is

to get it done up here. Thank you all again for your time,
