I had all blood tests done within 4 weeks of my surgery. They still wanted

to do some of them again the day before. The vitamin levels didn't have to

be repeated.

tests

Today I had lots of lab work done, a chest x-ray and gall bladder

sonogram. My doc says if my gall bladder shows anything at all, he

would like to take it out. Did everybody else have to go through all

of this testing pre-op? I know that some of the blood work was

because i had a staff infection in November and some was tests that

my oncologist requested my surgeon to do before I have surgery. But

there were a lot more that the surgeon wanted to do. I am off during

the summer because I teach. I have to start back to school 3 weeks

after surgery. Has everyone felt up to working that soon after? It

is so hard for me to get a sub because I teach blind and there are

not very many sighted people out there that know braille. Besides, I

just have one little boy right now that is 5. We were together all

last year, and I hate to make him spend a lot of time with a

substitute.

Yes, I have gone through a number of tests. I have had a gall baldder

ultrasound, sleep study, echocardiogram, blood work and it seems like more but I

can't remember right now. But the way I look at it is better to be safe than

sorry. I think they are trying to make sure that they don't find any surprises

when they get in there. But all the hoops I have to jump through will be worth

it in the end.

I had a lot more tests than that done. It took several months to

complete all of them.

It's very common to have gallbladder problems when you're obese, so

having it removed during the GBS is a strong possibility. They figure

while they're in there anyway they may as well save you a possible

surgery later on.

As far as recovery time, no one can answer that for you. The standard

is 2 to 6 weeks. For me, I wasn't in pain after surgery (laparscopic),

just very weak. With having a physically demanding job, I needed to

take the longer amount of recovery time. I was so tired the first

couple of weeks that I needed to rest after something as simple as a

shower.
