Try the unflavored one that goes into drinks and soups and such. That might

be more palatable.

ICE

-- protein drinks

I am two months out, I had my surgery March 23rd, started 250lbs now

206lbs, my problem is I can't stand protin drinks, I refuse to drink

them, I tried the chocolate powder mixed with milk and I tried the

clear fruit flavored ones(yuck!). I know the protein is important, so

is there anyone that can give me words of encouragement to get back

started on the protein drinks. Thank you.

Another protein drink that has sustained me:

I dissolve 1 teaspoon of decaf instant coffee (make sure it is decaf--

people who have had our surgery shouldn't have caffeine) into about

1/4 cup of hot water. I then add 3 tablespoons of powdered chocolate

protein and a tablespoon or two of powdered milk. I have a hand-held

electric drink mixer, so this is all very easy. I add about 8 oz. of

chocolate soy milk (this is delicious by itself), and then I add 2-3

ice cubes. Then blend, blend, blend. This is terrific stuff! Like

something you would buy at Starbucks. Someone posted this recipe on

this egroup several months ago and I have used it numerous times.

thick)

Try it with skim milk, or even water, if your stomach can't take the

soy milk. My surgeon released me last month and told me that I could

eat anything I wanted, as long as I made sure my protein equaled at

least 1/2 of my meal and it set ok on my stomach. So far, I haven't

found anything that didn't set right with me. I've been very

fortunate and have had no complications since my surgery last

September. The reason I chose soy milk is because regular milk makes

my stomach " rumble " a little (even before the surgery). AND my

gynecologist suggested that I should get some sort of soy in my diet

every day in order to relieve my hot flashes a little, which are due

to going through menapause (I'm 56 years old). Just experiment, and

see what you like and can tolerate. I also like to put a banana in

the chocolate protein, or into strawberry protein with extra powdered

milk. Actually, the best protein is still meat, because it stays

with you longer--keeping you from getting hungry longer. The best to

you and good luck.

i too hated protein drinks right after my surgery (open RNY 3/5/04)

i couldn't get it down at all... it literally made me ill. but i

got some WHEY TECH last week at The Vitamin Store (they also have an

online store) - it's their own brand... i got the vanilla and i've

had it every morning. i love it because it's not too sweet and has

NO SUGAR and best of all it's 17 grams of protein per scoop and it

goes up to 25 grams of protein when you mix it with a cup of nonfat

milk. you don't have to put it in the blender - it actually mixes

with a spoon... but i've been putting it in a shaker cup with the

milk and then i shake it up and add some ice cubes. i take it to

work and drink it all morning. you can mix it with water also...

it's good both ways... i prefer it with the nonfat milk and then i

also add a little water (i really don't like sweet stuff since my

surgery).

this stuff has really saved my life. i'm going back to The Vitamin

Store tomorrow and get some more... i might even try another flavor.

Yonnie could you give me the name of the drinks that you are talking about? I

can not find pure protien on the web. But 34mg sounds like the best as far as I

can tell. I have not had surgery yet but would like to get started on some form

of Protien Drinks.

Thank you

PROPLETE GOLD - by Labrada!!! Vanilla pinapple is soooo good and

has tiny bits of real pinapple in it - only 1 or 2 grams of sugar

per serving - sweetened with splenda (i think).

this is a protein powder - i mix it with a bit of nonfat milk, lots

of water, and a ton of ice. i drink it every morning and LOVE IT.

and i HATED protein drinks when i got home from my surgery - i had

stocked up on pre-mixed canned drinks - YUCK!

you can order a bunch of different samples from VITALADY.COM and

pick out what protein powder you like best.
