Guest guest
I found mine on ebay and was patient enough to wait unitl I got a good deal But of course that's online too. To: btvc-scd Sent: Sat, January 30, 2010 12:16:43 PMSubject: where to purchase a dehydrator? I'd like to buy a dehydrator. The one I want is the small excalibur model. However, it appears that the only way I can buy that is to order online. Does anyone know of a way to get an excalibur without having to order one online? I saw some online at a store called Cabala's (walk in store), but there isn't one of those stores where I live. Any suggestions on what stores might carry them? Thanks! She's a long-time SCDer, a friend of Elaine, and the service is excellent. I bought three Excaliburs from her (2 for me and one for a gift.) — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund
Guest guest
Speaking of dehydrators, I have one but have only used it a few times. It's not the kind you use Marilyn. I made banana chips a few times but they stick to the plate and I blister my fingers. Can you line the trays with parchment or anything? I also tried spraying it once but it doesn't last as long as it takes to dry something out here. This may be a good time of year to try it again though. I would think you could line your trays with parchment, though I've never needed to. Parchment ought to let the air through so things can dry, although you might want to consider turning the items over halfway through the drying. That's one thing I have to admit I also like about the Excalibur... things come loose easy, and even the stickiest, messiest trays clean up super easy. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund
Guest guest
The excalibur dehydrator comes with (or you can buy separately) teflex sheets that help with foods sticking to the trays. Perhaps the manufacturer makes something similar for your brand of dehydrator? Stacey PS - how did you blister your fingers? > >>I'd like to buy a dehydrator. Guest guest
Yeah, it's the honey that makes them stick so much. Someday, when I'm more advanced in the diet, I may try to use stevia instead (not technically legal). Holly Crohn's SCD 12/01/08 > > When I was growing up we used to make regular meringues in a very slow oven, and we always cut a piece of brown paper bag the size of the cookie sheet. I don't know a thing about dehydrators and what is good or evil with them, but meringues didn't stick to the paper in those days. Of course I'm sure you are not using sugar so perhaps there's a content/stickiness difference, but just an idea. > > > > > > My dehydrator came with some " no stick " sheets. My meringues still stuck to them. >
