Guest guest
Hi Bob, Don't get too worried, you will be OK. The deep breathing can be done, it is important to keep your nose clear so that you can breathe in through it. Most of us seem to be able to get some air in the mouth between some gaps in the teeth also, depending upon your bite and if you have a splint or not. You are right, yawning is very difficult, it feels strange. Sneezing, not too pleasant in the beginning. I used saline nose spray and a bedside humidifier to help. Keep us posted on your progress after surgery. a > > > I am having my surgery March 8 , in Nanaimo British columbia... > I was wondering how tough it is to breathe deeply without getting > panicky with teeth clenched tight ? > Yawning ,That must be impossible ? and what about sneezing ,is that > painful ? > Gettin nervous and just wondering ...... > Bob
Guest guest
If you're wired shut, you won't be yawning, at least while you're wired. When you're released, you support your lower jaw with your hand, if you need to yawn. Best not to sneeze, either -- nor blow your nose. I'm not sure how you manage the first part of that one, though. Ask your doc. For panic, just keep reminding yourself that your brain is in control of your body, and that you will not suffocate. If you don't get enough air, you pass out (not that I've heard of that happening to anybody) and the tissues relax and you start breathing again. That's why children who hold their breath in tantrums and turn blue aren't really in trouble -- they'll just pass out and start breathing again, if they maintain the breath-holding. You can help yourself with the congestion by having a vaporizer, and asking your doc about antihistamines and/or nose spray (Afrin is the usual one) -- but don't use too much of the latter, or you'll get a rebound effect and be worse off and not better. Hot steamy baths or showers are also recommended, with someone nearby to help, in case you get woozy. c. > > > > > I am having my surgery March 8 , in Nanaimo British columbia... > I was wondering how tough it is to breathe deeply without getting > panicky with teeth clenched tight ? > Yawning ,That must be impossible ? and what about sneezing ,is that > painful ? > Gettin nervous and just wondering ...... > Bob
