We could all just slap her, ya know. Tell her to go to www.vitalady.com and look at the pictures on the website. Then tell her this woman takes in MORE than 3 shakes a day -- does it seem she's getting too many calories? If I could discipline myself to have a protein shake when I'm craving something else, I wouldn't have re-gained the weight I have, and I'd be getting off that gain. Do what you're doing -- of course you will lose slower at a year out, but you're doing fine. But how the heck do you gag down ProComplex? <grin> My surgeon sold the stuff and it was all we were supposed to use, but I can't stand it. If you can, more power to ya! Hint: SciFit comes in Chcolate-Peanut Butter, so you don't need to add any. OR you can use peanut butter flavored sugar-free syrup, and get the same taste without the calories. ~~ Lyn G
Guest guest
Jeanne, It sounds like you are doing great. I understand that there are some s/f syrups out there. Maybe they have one in peanut butter. But, even adding the peanut butter is not a bad thing. I have heard that the oils/fats from nuts are healthier then other products. You have lost 102 lbs in a year and that is way terrific. Do what is best for you and don't worry about the nutritionist. Lori Owen - Denton, Texas SRVG 7/16/01 Dr. Ritter/Dr. Bryce 479/335/??? Guest guest
Thanks for the suggestions, Lyn. I tried the Sci-Fit chocolate-peanut butter and didn't care for it but that was a year ago. Perhaps my tastes have changed since then. I have some. s.f. peanut butter syrup. I thought it was too strong tasting, again, I should try it again, maybe just a few drops worth. Take care. Guest guest
Welcome (from one of the Orlando Dispatchers). Someday we will break the myth that all dispatchers are fat. This surgery was a tool to motivate me to walk. I too have never gotten sick since surgery, but like you, chicken is the only thing that has made me at all nauseous. I find I can eat white meat with no problem because it shreds easily then does turn to mush after chewing. Dark meat and wing meat for some reason feels 'stuck' after only 2 bites. Keep us posted and congrats. ~~Pat~~ Orlando, FL 252/201/160 BMI 37/ 52 Years Young LAP-RNY 12/10/03 Wayne English, MD Ft Lauderdale, FL Message: 6 Date: Mon, 29 Mar 2004 16:31:04 EST From: Jensingspraises@... Subject: Introduction Hello My name is . I had the RNY on 1-13-04. I am 31 years old and just wanted a better life to break the bondage of food and diets. I am a 911 operator, so I tended to internalize the stress and sit on my growing behind as I helped everyone else and myself slowly dying because of obesity. I didn't have any problem getting approved, my BMI was 48 at 301lbs. Since the surgery, I have lost 40lbs, the size of a 4 or 5 year old child. I feel wonderful but I do get tired pretty fast and find that I need a nap during the day. I drink protein drinks called Achieve One, which are like coffee drinks containing 20grams of protein. I found these at a nutrition store called Tucks Nutrition. I have also found the websites Bariatriceating.com and Vitalady.com very useful during this journey. I have only been a bit nauseous usually after eating Chicken. I have not had any dumping yet, which I am thankful. I did eat 2 hershey kisses one day- talk about risks! I have enjoyed everyone I have meet who has had this surgery. During my last support group meeting, I met a few 911 operators from Orlando who told me about this website, it has been a valuable tool of information. It is nice to see so many wonderful people find support with each other. We truley can empathise with one another. Guest guest
, There is a risk at anything you do. There is a risk to every medical procedure. But the risk is very small and the benefits of this surgery far out weight the risk. The surgery has saved my life. I was a bigger risk for this surgery because of my age and medical condition. I am 60 years old and weighed almost 400 lb., I was in a wheelchair, I have a heart problems, an aortic aneurysm, arthritis, fibromyalgia, chronic bronical asthma, very bad spinal stenosis and spinal deterioration, and I WAS a diabetic, and I HAD High blood pressure that was going to cause the aneurysm to rupture. I know longer have diabetes or high blood pressure. I am even able to get around the house now without my wheelchair. I was doomed without the surgery and now I have hope for a better life and more time with my family. I made the choice to take the chance and I went through it all with no problems. I have not been sick at all. Even though I weighed almost 400# I was still able to have a LAP. I was only in the hospital 2 days and as of this day I have lost 139 pounds. I have never had any sickness except one dumping experience that taught me to watch my carbohydrates. It was one year on the 22nd of March and I would do it over again in a heartbeat. March 22nd is my new birthday because that was the beginning of my new life. Â Life is so good. Â Don't worry, put your trust in God and you will be fine. Â Will the hospital let your husband stay in the room with you while you are in the hospital? Â My husband stayed with me and it was wonderful to have him with me. Â You might want to ask. Â They only charged us 10 dollars a night and he had a real bed, not just a cot. So you see even with all my medical problems against me I came through with flying colors. Just be sure to stay positive and focus on the positive. Do even let negative thought enter your mine. As soon as you have a negative thought, just push it out as fast as you think of them. Do not dwell on the negative. Think only positive thoughts and you will be fine. Good Luck A. B. Guest guest
, I too was desperate to live again and I am now living again because of this surgery. I came to a point in my life that I knew I could not last much longer the way that I was. When you have to depend on everyone around you to wait on you and you can't even take care of your personal hygiene, it time to come to terms with the fact that you have to just bite the bullet because you are going to die if you don't. Good luck and write me anytime. A. B. Lap 3/22/03 Dr. Steve Weinstein Mobile Infirmary Medical 386-247-139lb BMI 65/
Guest guest
Hello everyone- I tried to post yesterday, but I never saw it come through, so I try again. I am 10 months post -op, (RNY) down 135 lbs (343 to 208), off all blood pressure meds and no longer looking at back surgery. I have energy and stamina that I never thought possible. I have had no major side effects except for hair loss from about month four or five through month nine. My Dr. prescribed zinc sulfonate 220 mg 3x a day, but I am not sure whether it was the zinc or the passage of time that resolved the issue. I lost hair after I gave birth, and while I was losing 100 lbs on a low carb diet several years ago, but it grew back fine after both. My biggest adjustment has been not drinking while eating or for 30 minutes after. I just can't seem to do it. I also have problem taking pills at any time other than morning and evening--always seems to slip my mind. My greatest moments: having my GP finally admit that the surgery is a GOOD thing after I passed out in his office from too much bp medicine; wearing high heels and short skirts; keeping up with my 4 year old;being able to get more involved in everything! I am not having a problem with wanting to eat all of the time. I can only eat smalll amounts, but I want to do it all day long.... in ither words, my " hunger " has come back. Hunger is in quotes because I don't believe that it is real hunger. I think it is the re-activation of the hormone that supposedly goes dormant for a while after the surgery. If anyone has any insight or suggestions, I would really appreciate hearing them! Thanks in advance. Guest guest
Stop now while you can. I too wanted to eat all day long and did so thinking it was ok. Now 20 lbs heavier I wish I hadn't started. There is a honeymoon stage where it doesn't hurt you, which is what you are in. But here I am 2 1/2 yrs after surgery and I'm paying for it. I can't seem to stop. I want to eat all the time. Can't do that and still lose wight anymore!!!! The surgery is a tool not a cure and I keep telling myself that but it isn't helping. I am struggleing with getting back on track and trying to lose the 20 or so pounds I have gained. When you are in a 10-12, 20lbs puts you in a 14. Not like it was when I weighed 286, 20 lbs didn't really change my clothes size. Stay on track now while you still remember what " on track " is. 12/11/01 started @ 286 lost 126 and have regained 20 something > > Hello everyone- I tried to post yesterday, but I never saw it come through, > so I try again. > > I am 10 months post -op, (RNY) down 135 lbs (343 to 208), off all blood > pressure meds and no longer looking at back surgery. Guest guest
Hi ! Welcome! I'm fairly new here too. I've actually been lurking for a year or more, but I just started the actual process to get surgery done, just like you, so we'll be on similar time schedules possibly...although I may be looking at 18 mos. of braces so you might get your surgery done before me. I've just met with the OS and OD, and I go back to the OD next week to see his plan, talk money (my insurance won't cover braces for adults, period, no questions asked) and all that stuff. I'm really excited about finally getting this done, myself. I'm 28 and have known about my " deformed " jaw since my first round of braces came off at age 13. My parents just didn't know there was anything to be done about it, and I found out about this site and the surgery about a year or so ago, but I wasn't sure that my insurance would cover it. But with my 10-year high school reunion coming up, I decided it was time to do something about it. Unfortunately I won't have it done in time for that, but I'll be on my way to getting it done, and hopefully the swelling will be gone by my 20th reunion. Anyway, looking forward to seeing your progress, especially since we're starting about the same time...so keep in touch!
Guest guest
~ Thanks for writing. I would love to keep in touch with you as well. If you want to write to me privately, my email address is angela @arsgroup. com (remove spaces). I, too , had braces as a teenager and I think at that point (in the 70's) that the OD believed he could fix the bite with braces. Obviously that was not the case. I have been wanting to get braces again for years but there was always some excuse why NOT to do it, like maybe I will meet the man of my dreams and get married, or I DID meet the man of my dreams and don't want braces in wedding photos, or I am pregnant and don't want to deal with braces and morning sickness at the same time. Finally, now at age 42, I figure it is now or never!! Good for you for going for it. I live in TN as well but near Nashville. Based on your email address I assume you live near Memphis. > > Hi ! Guest guest
Hello All, I am new to the group also and am so grateful that I ran across this message board. I have 12 days until my surgery, which is upper, lower, chin extension and cheeks. Just reading the message board is helpful, but is there anything else I should prepare myself for? Has anyone in the group had the chin or cheeks done? Apparently it helps the symmetry of the face, but I'm curious as to whether it adds a lot more pain and recovery time. My surgery is for TMJ which I've had for the past 5 years. Has anyone here had this surgery and orthodontic work for TMJ. If so...has it worked. With going through so many medical things over the past few years, I sometimes get scared that the surgery won't work. Any advice, would be great! Thanks, angela82462 wrote: ~ Thanks for writing.
