Guest guest
Yep! several months ago i made the same comment.. my face look thinner and my chin is stronger... i had lower jaw advanced about 5mm in early May 2004. Everyone thinks i look thinner, but it's only the appearace of a longer face ... Do you think you look better after the surgery? i'm sure your side profile has improved significantly... > > Has anyone on here who had lower advancement noticed a change in > their face shape? Guest guest
Do you guys have before and after photos. I would really like to see and compare my advancement to yours. I am still a little swollen but have been taking pictures. I Think my face looks somwhat the same from the front but from the side it is a big difference..but I am not sure yet if it is for the better. I think maybe my lower lip doesn't match my upper lip as well. But that may be due to some swelling still remaining. when you say your face looks longer is that from the front or the side. I think from the side my face looks a little longer. I am still early in it though, 10 days now. zulu1967 wrote: Yep! several months ago i made the same comment.. my face look thinner and my chin is stronger... i had lower jaw advanced about 5mm in early May 2004. Guest guest
dwilzen, 10 days is way too early to make any judgements on appearance - wait at least 5 months. Actually, it's best to wait till you have your braces off before making the final judgement. By the way, do you have any asymmetry problems? How you numbness? Are you feeling any tingling yet? > > > > Has anyone on here who had lower advancement noticed a change in > > their face shape? Guest guest
My lower lip and chin are completely numb. I have not really felt any tingling in that area other than maybe once or twice over the last week. I keep thinking that my chin looks a little more to the left than it was before but it is slight and maybe due to swelling. I am going to try and get some pics I have been taking this week together and post them on here. Can you tell me what I should expect at this phase of my recovery. I was wondering if you were able to talk very well and if you experienced the same kind of numbness. Were you still on liquid diet after this abount of time? How long did your splint stay in and did you have to keep wearing rubberbands? zulu1967 wrote: dwilzen, 10 days is way too early to make any judgements on appearance - wait at least 5 months. That's horrific since most of the weight loss was muscle. My problem was that I didn't like the liquid diet and i didn't eat much. Funnily, i didnt need a liquid diet, and i suspect that you don't either... I was able to chew, but very softly. I could eat soft foods like rice and pasta as long as i didnt have to chew hard. How long did your splint stay in and did you have to keep wearing rubberbands? I didnt need a split. I had two elastics which I changed every night. After 3 weeks, I didnt require the elastics... PS. i'm 8 months postop and i think my face is still changing, but now it's due to the braces. I've been told that i'm in braces for another 10 months! it sounds horrible, but i dont want them off till my teeth are perfect... I can't believe i've been in braces for almost 2 years.... > > zulu1967 <zulu1967@y...> wrote: > dwilzen, > > 10 days is way too early to make any judgements on appearance - wait > at least 5 months. Guest guest
That is a long time, I am over 2 years now wearing braces and probably have another year. This is an unbelievable journey. Patience is the name of the game if you want to go through this. I know I am very early in my recovery, I am just anxious about getting back to normal. I was told I could eat mushy stuff , but I am so paranoid about messing something up that I am sticking to soup and other liquids. I think I am getting my splint out next week, then I have an appointment with my orthodontist. I don't think he is going to do anything at this point, just maybe take a look at whats new. as far as the numbness goes, My chin feels very hard like there is some swelling in there or something, hopefully when that goes away I will start getting some sensation back in that area. I do have one other question..were you able to open your mouth very much and what would be the time table for that. I have not even attempted to open more that a couple of millimeters. But I was wondering is it weeks or more like months before I begin opening wider and at what point did you begin trying to open wider. thanks again zulu1967 wrote: >>>> Can you tell me what I should expect at this phase of my recovery. Guest guest
Hmpf... I had a 5 mm. lower advancement, and not one single soul has said I look an ounce thinner. Sigh.
